The first steps toward the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper, will be taken at the Inglis Official 2YO Trials at Royal Randwick on Monday.

Eleven heats – five for the fillies and six for the colts and geldings – will be run on the Kensington track from 9.00am as the two-year-olds have their first public trials ahead of two key early races.

Monday’s heats determine first starters in the Group 3 $160,000 Arrowfield Breeders’ Plate for the colts and geldings and the Group 3 $160,000 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes for fillies at Royal Randwick on TAB Epsom Day, 5 October.

The Spring pathway to the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper has been further strengthened this year with the addition of the $1 million Golden Gift at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 9 November.

First acceptances for the Group 1 Longines Golden Slipper close on Tuesday 1 October.

The Australian Turf Club in partnership with Inglis will host a special breakfast event in Royal Randwick’s Chairman’s Club for racing and breeding fans to join thoroughbred industry figures.

Inglis Official 2YO Barrier Trials Breakfast – Tickets and information

A complimentary BBQ breakfast with tea and coffee – sponsored by Inglis – will be held throughout the morning on the Members Lawn.

Australian Turf Club General Manager of Racing, Wagering and International James Ross said the trials gave two-year-olds a full experience ahead of raceday.

“The Official 2YO trials are a crucial step in a young horse’s path towards their first start and perhaps ultimately running in the iconic Longines Golden Slipper,” Mr Ross said.

“The horses on Monday will use the Theatre Of The Horse and go out to the barriers just like a raceday as they aim to qualify for the first Sydney two year old races of the season.”
