Every time Winx steps out she attracts attention, and that popularity for the super mare will only grow with each consecutive win.

The release of the first Longines World’s Best Racehorse Rankings for 2017, positioning the mare as equal first with American star Arrogate, has the name ‘Winx’ recognised worldwide.

Meet Joe, a Winx superfan from California. Joe loves horseracing and has a special affinity with Australian racing, so much so that he has two tattoos on his arm named after Aussie tracks, Royal Randwick and Moonee Valley. Joining this artwork is a tattoo on his wrist, a favourite saying of Winx’s jockey Hugh Bowman, ‘She’s Apples’.

Joe first heard about Winx about two years ago when he was up late one night and watching racing live from Australia. He has always been intrigued by turf racing ‘down under’, and knows all the tracks. The Australian races are shown in the evenings State-side, and it would be something Joe looked forward to when he came home from work.

Joe was watching races from Queensland one day, with Alan Thomas calling.  He remembers the call vividly ‘Look at Winx!, Look at Winx, she’s come from last!’, and that’s the first time Joe fell in love with the champion.

This race was the first of Winx’s undefeated winning sequence and she is now chasing 17 straight.

Joe has been following her ever since, always keeping an eye out for her name. Joe says “she reminded me of Zenyatta, just closing in like an express train and her turn of foot is massive, it is awesome”.

“Winx is my favourite horse, and even though I’m in the States with California Chrome, Tepin, and Arrogate, Winx beats them all”.

No doubt there will be a few cheers from California as Winx heads out this Saturday at Royal Randwick in the Group 1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes, on The Championships Day 2.
