Five Years On.......The Autumn Sun

September 22, 2023

The Kia Golden Rose has produced many outstanding winners in its history and The Autumn Sun is definitely one of those.

Prepared by Chris Waller at Royal Randwick, The Autumn Sun went into the 2018 Golden Rose as the winner of four of his five starts but had suffered defeat at his previous run in the Stan Fox Stakes.

Jockey Kerrin McEvoy had the son of Redoute’s Choice last at the 800-metre mark and still faced the entire field turning for home.

Unleashing his customary brilliant finish, The Autumn Sun left it late but arrived in time to beat Zousain and Graff in a vintage edition of the Golden Rose.

The outstanding galloper would only have four more runs in his career – all wins – and capture the Randwick and Rosehill Guineas before being retired to stud.

Who will add their name to the honour roll this Saturday?
