We asked our Australian Turf Club Members and loyal racing fans to tell us what racing means to them. We received over 170 responses filled with emotion and nostalgia.
The best of the responses has been compiled into a special ‘What Racing Means To Me’ book, showcasing some of the heart-warming words sent in to us, and highlighted by a poem by competition winner Steve Paisio.
Sports shutdown, the Nation froze,
hearts began to sink.
Now they say the Pub will close,
can’t even get a drink.
To rescue came The Sport of Kings!
The champions of the turf.
The thrill, the joy a winner brings,
beats being kicked outta the surf!
The Slipper, Diamond, TJ too,
the thrill of the Randwick Mile.
The Sangster, Goodwood, to name but a few,
Just how they made us smile.
Each week goes by, with the races on,
I pray our fortunes not a jinx.
In a lock-down world, when the fun is gone,
thank you racing, you’re ‘OUR’ Winx!
