Western Clubs Win Hearts in Spades on Big Race Card at Rosehill Gardens

The Australian Turf Club joins with one of its longest-running charity partners and racedays on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens as two key Group races for three-year-olds feature on the eve of the Sydney spring.

ClubsNSW West Metro San Domenico Raceday is the 35^th consecutive year the Australian Turf Club has joined with some of Western Sydney’s biggest clubs to raise funds for charity.

The Group 3 $250,000 Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes and Group 3 $250,000 Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Up and Coming Stakes are part of a 10-race card which has attracted 139 entries.

Both races are pathway events to the Group 1 $1 million Yulong Golden Rose to be run at Rosehill Gardens on 27 September

Little Wings – which has been the official charity partner since 2018 – transports children from remote areas across NSW to Westmead Hospital for repeat treatment.

Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan Region President Bill Treloar said Little Wings would receive a $30,000 donation as part of Saturday’s event.

“We are delighted to again join with the ATC for our 35^th consecutive year this for our hugely popular raceday which will raise funds and awareness for Little Wings and a range of other charities,’’ Mr Treloar said.

“We have always believed Clubs are very much part of our community and as such should participate in helping not-for-profit and sporting charities within the region.’’

Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL, Smithfield RSL, Bankstown Sports, Mounties Group, Campbelltown Catholic Club, Wests Group Macarthur and Merrylands RSL are among the clubs partnering with the raceday.

Australian Turf Club Head of Racing and Wagering Nevesh Ramdhani said both feature races had attracted some of the best three-year-olds in training.

“The Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes has attracted one of its strongest fields in many years as many of the top stables bring out their leading hopes for Spring with several potential Group 1 targets,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.

Champion trainer and jockey combination Chris Waller and James McDonald join with Wodeton who opens a $2.70 TAB favourite in the Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes.

The highly-talented Raging Force for trainer Peter Snowden is a $3.40 second TAB pick ahead of Rivellino trained by Kris Lees at $6 TAB Fixed Odds.

In the Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Up and Coming Stakes Waller trains the early favourite in Sixties, who opens a $3.60 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.

Saturday’s 10-race card begins at 11.45am with the last race due to jump at 5.05pm.
