Waterhouse And Bott Stable Secure Royal Randwick Boxes At Leilani Lodge
23 July, 2026
The Australian Turf Club has granted the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott training partnership a lease for 65 boxes at the former Leilani Lodge stables in High Street at Royal Randwick.
Leilani Lodge was vacated in May 2025 and has since undergone significant remediation works, bringing it up to modern standards.
In reaching the decision, the ATC welcomed the Waterhouse and Bott application’s consolidation of on-course stabling to better improve safety around the Royal Randwick precinct.
The extra boxes on course will remove the need for horse movement along Bowral Street and Doncaster Avenue from the stable’s main Tulloch Lodge base.
ATC CEO Steve McMahon said: “Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are iconic names in Australian racing and are a part of the fabric of Royal Randwick.
“In time, this move to Leilani Lodge will mean for the first time in the history of Royal Randwick, there will be no horses crossing any road for morning trackwork or afternoon exercise.
“Horse and participant safety was a key factor in the ATC’s decision, further strengthening Royal Randwick as one of the world’s best racing and training centres.’’
The ATC has also freed up 20 boxes for Royal Randwick trainer Michael Freedman, who was the other short-listed applicant for the Leilani Lodge stables.
