The Group 3 $160,000 Quincy Seltzer Up & Coming Stakes headlines a nine-race card at Royal Randwick this Saturday as a classy field of three-year-olds heads toward the $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose.
Highly-promising Hawkes Racing-trained colt North Pacific has opened the $2.30 TAB favourite in the Quincy Seltzer Up & Coming Stakes with Sydney’s reigning premiership-winning jockey James McDonald aboard.
Unbeaten colts Smart Image ($4.20 TAB) for trainers Peter and Paul Snowden and jockey Kerrin McEvoy and Yardstick ($4.80 TAB) trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and ridden by Tim Clark are next in betting.
The Quincy Seltzer Up & Coming Stakes is the first of a number of pathway races for the three-year-olds over the coming weeks before the running of the first $1 million race of the Sydney Spring – the De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens on 26 September.
Saturday also sees the start of Spring campaigns towards two other feature Group 1 races of the Sydney Spring Carnival – the $1 million TAB Epsom and $750,000 Heineken 3 Metropolitan.
The $125,000 Spring Preview is headed in TAB markets by Man Of Peace for in-form apprentice Louise Day and trainer Matthew Dale, ahead of the Chris Waller trained Shared Ambition ($5.50 TAB) for jockey Tom Sherry.
The Australian Turf Club continues to welcome spectators back to the track under strict Covid protocols and enhanced safety measures.
All patrons must either pre-purchase hospitality to dine in selected restaurants or must pre-book tickets to unreserved seating areas in line with the current NSW Public Health Order.
The Royal Randwick track was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday morning.
