Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes

Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes

60 boxes & 2 walkers

Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes were the first three-person training partnership in Australian racing. They were the first training partnership to saddle up a runner in Sydney racing, winning with their first ever runner – Real Saga in the 2008 Listed Breeders Plate. They also prepared the first Group One winner by a training partnership in Sydney racing when Fiumicino won the 2009 The BMW on Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill Gardens. More than a decade later, they have now trained over 1000 winners together including 20 at Group One level, most notably two Golden Slippers, three TJ Smith Stakes, three Caulfield Guineas, Doncaster Mile, Golden Rose and Hong Kong Chairman’s Sprint Prize. They have prepared some of the best racehorses of the modern era including champion Chautauqua, All Too Hard and Masked Crusader. The success of the training partnership should come as no surprise given John Hawkes is recognized as one of the nation’s all-time great trainers. A member of racing’s elite Hall of Fame, Hawkes trained nearly 5000 winners in his own right including 96 at Group One level, winning nine Sydney trainers premierships and preparing champions Octagonal, Lonhro, Unworldly, Toltrice, Forensics, Freemason, Railings, Arena, Over, Headturner, Guineas and Mentality.
