BACKGROUND
In the late 1980’s, Michael Freedman joined his three older brothers, Lee, Anthony and Richard in one of Australia’s most prominent training partnerships. During their 20-year tenure, the Melbourne based Freedman stable prepared over 100 Group 1 winners, including five Melbourne Cup winners and four consecutive Golden Slipper winners.
In 2008, Michael branched out to train in his own right when he was granted a licence to train in Singapore. Over eight seasons, Michael trained the winners of 468 races, with the best of those being Singapore Triple Crown Winner and Horse of The Year, Super Easy.
With a decade of experience in Asia including a brief stint in Hong Kong, Michael is now firmly based in Sydney, Australia. Since calling Royal Randwick home, Michael has trained two Golden Slipper winners, a dominant victory with Stay Inside in 2021 and also Marhoona in 2025. Well-regarded as a premier trainer of juveniles, earned by his association with Stay Inside, Queen Of The Ball, Glistening and Tiger Of Malay, Michael has demonstrated versality with older horses including the likes of multiple Group 1 winning Forbidden Love.
Owners consistently praise his communication and professionalism, making him a standout within the Sydney racing scene.
