BACKGROUND
Gai Waterhouse AO has established herself as one of the world’s most respected trainers. She has trained over 150 Group 1 winners, collected 7 Sydney trainers’ premierships and was the first Australian female trainer to prepare a Melbourne Cup winner.
Waterhouse was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for outstanding contribution to Thoroughbred racing. She is also an Australian Living Treasure nominated by the National Trust of Australia. In 2018, she was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and in 2021 she was awarded an Officer of the order of Australia.
Son of successful breeder Tony Bott, Adrian became passionate about horses at an early age, growing up at one of the leading nurseries in the Hunter Valley. He completed a Bachelor in Design Computing, but he knew that the Thoroughbred industry was where he wanted to make a career.
Adrian worked as a cadet steward at Racing NSW before receiving a scholarship to attend the prestigious Godolphin Flying Start Program – a two-year program providing international management and leadership training in the Thoroughbred industry.
Having completed the program, Adrian commenced working for Gai Waterhouse Racing and in 2016, Gai and Adrian formed a training partnership. Since then, they’ve enjoyed over G1 winners in partnership, including 2020 Golden Slipper winners Farnan and Lady Of Camelot.
