Craig was granted permission to train at Randwick in September 2005 after a successful career as a jockey. He retired after 20 years in the saddle, 11 Group 1 victories and numerous other black-type wins. He was also awarded Sydney’s Champion Apprentice in the season of 1986/87. Craig’s experience in the saddle afforded him valuable knowledge in the training and preparation of racehorses. Whilst riding trackwork for legendary trainers Tommy Smith, Bart Cummings and Les Bridge, Craig gained insight into the brilliance of their varying training strategies and techniques for many years. Since gaining his own Trainer’s license, Craig has enjoyed good success with a small team. Craig’s experience and knowledge is well respected in the industry and it’s only a matter of time before he gets further opportunities where his expertise will be highlighted even further. One of Craig’s great assets is that he still regularly rides his own trackwork which enables him to judge the ability level of each horse and where they are best placed to gain a maximum return.
