The latest look at the fields and tips by analyst Shane Montgomery for XXXX Golden Rose Day
September 25, 2021
ROSEHILL GARDENS 25/09/21 BEST BET Race Six, 10-LOVE TAP
RACE ONE 11.55am PRECISE AIR HANDICAP 1900m
8-YIYI (J Collett/C Waller) He scored with great authority at his only previous home track run here and he can remain unbeaten at Rosehill without causing the slightest of surprises today. A slight switch back from 2000m last start/Kembla Grange aids his cause
3-OUR INTRIGUE (J McDonald/C Waller) She began her current campaign in New Zealand but she’s now having her third start since a seven week break and after numerous Gear Changes were made before her second last run, her efforts have been excellent
5-CRYSTAL PEGASUS (K McEvoy/C Waller) He’s an imported 5YO who was presented after four weeks off last run at Kembla Grange when the break between starts proved to be costly late. He will be more suitably placed today off this quicker back-up
2-CASINO MONDIAL (J Van Overmeire/K Buchanan) This experienced 7YO has only been produced at Rosehill once and he overcame an unsuitable run to win on the day. He rated a new Personal Best at Randwick last start and he can hold his form today
RACE TWO 12.30pm TAB HIGHWAY CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1500m
4-SO SAY YOU (B Ryan/T Robinson) She was far too good for all bar the first two home at Kembla Grange within this distance range last start when she was produced after five weeks off. She will present Race-fitter here where she’s had one run for one win
3-TAP ‘N’ RUN (J Collett/R Stubbs) He’s a lightly raced 4YO who is making a metropolitan debut today. He became unsuited at Goulburn when he tackled 1200m fourth up last start but he refused to shirk his task. He should relish the step up to this trip today
15-KERMATIN (R King/K Dryden) She hadn’t been produced in a Trial before she resumed within this distance range last start at Moruya when she handed in a most pleasing effort in defeat. She’s competing in town for the first time and this circuit should suit
11-WITHOUT SHAME (S Clipperton/S Grills) He’s a Tamworth based 4YO who’s having his fourth run after a long spell and he still has scope to improve. He gave every indication at Dubbo/1300m last start after three weeks off that 1500m will now be ideal
RACE THREE 1.05pm MIDWAY HANDICAP 1300m
7-CALGARY QUEEN (J McDonald/B Widdup) She rated a new Personal Best when she resumed on the Kensington Track before a Weight Rise failed to suit after three weeks off on the same track last start. She did score when third up last preparation
3-RUBY TUESDAY (T Clark/G Portelli) She was a Dual Acceptor today with her Connections choosing this Race as the best option. She was produced after nine weeks off when she led all the way/1300m/Kensington Track last start. She’s Race-fitter now
9-BUDHWAR (J Parr/D Lane) He is a Wyong based gelding who will be making his Rosehill debut and he has the natural pace to make his own luck up front today. He dug deep to score within this distance range when 2nd up last preparation at Muswellbrook
5-BAROSSA ROSA (K McEvoy/T Bartley) This mare had been given two Provincial Trials before she resumed in this class last start at Kembla Grange when she kept trying over 1200m. The slight distance rise she attempts today shouldn’t create a problem
RACE FOUR 1.40pm DRINKWISE COLIN STEPHEN QUALITY 2400m
2-ENTENTE (T Clark/G Waterhouse & A Bott) He was produced only 2nd up on his home track at Randwick last start when he handed in an honest effort in defeat. He scored with great authority when 3rd up last start at Albury and he is proven at Rosehill
7-CRIMINAL CODE (B Ryan/C Waller) His most recent winning effort was achieved on Heavy ground but he should not be considered as “just a wet-tracker”. He struck traffic problems at Newcastle last start before he refused to shirk his task in defeat
1-TAIKOMOCHI (N Rawiller/G Waterhouse & A Bott) He presents 4th up from a very long spell after performing above the expectations of the Market Place when he stepped up into this distance range at Newcastle last start. He still has scope to improve
3-FUN FACT (J Parr/B Baker) This Warwick Farm based gelding was having his third run since a spell when he became unsuited at Randwick/2000m. He shouldn’t be harshly judged for finishing unplaced, he’s more suitably placed now with Blinkers back on
RACE FIVE 2.15pm PETALUMA HERITAGE STAKES 1100m
4-KING OF SPARTA (H Bowman/P & P Snowden) With eight starts behind him, he presents as the most experienced of those contesting this Race and he must be treated with great respect. Expect him to concede most an early start but then hit the line hard
3-PAULELE (J McDonald/J Cummings) He resumed from his spell over this distance two starts ago on the Randwick Course Proper when he was responsible for a most impressive effort. He then did all but win at Kembla Grange and he’s proven 3rd up
1-SWORD OF STATE (K McEvoy/J Richards) He is a Matamata (New Zealand) based lightly raced colt who is making his Australian debut 1st up after Trialing recently at Randwick. He struck traffic problems on the only occasion he’s been beaten so far
2-HOME AFFAIRS (N Rawiller/C Waller) He is making his return to the Races today after a spell of twenty-six weeks but he should be expected to cope with this long break between starts. Here on his home track, he has been given a three Trial lead up!
RACE SIX 2.50pm NED WHISKY SHANNON STAKES 1500m
10-LOVE TAP (T Clark/R & M Freedman) There were excuses made after he finished unplaced 1st up at Randwick before Gear Changes were made last start/Kembla Grange when he stylishly regained his best form after three weeks off. He’s Race-fitter now
1-IMAGING (J McDonald/C Waller) This imported 7YO presents 3rd up, having his first start at home since October, last year. He stepped up into this distance range/Flemington after three weeks off when his effort was honest last start. He has scope to improve
2-BEST OF DAYS (H Bowman/J Cummings) After striking trouble 1st up over 1400m at Caulfield two starts ago, he was kept fresh before he handed in a solid performance within this distance range at Moonee Valley last start. He presents fresh again today
3-ARCHEDEMUS (J Parr/M, W & J Hawkes) He hasn’t been to the Races for four weeks but the break between starts in his case, can’t be considered as a minus. He’s proven after a similar break and his Caulfield last effort was better than it may read on paper
4-CHAT (B Ryan/J Thompson) He is an experienced 5YO who will be stepping up to attempt this distance for the first time and he should not be underestimated. He kept maintaining a strong finish to arrive just in time last start over 1300m at Kembla Grange
RACE SEVEN 3.25pm KEENELAND GOLDEN PENDANT 1400m
2-ENTRIVIERE (J McDonald/J Richards) This Matamata (New Zealand) based mare was resuming when she tackled 1200m at Kembla Grange when she more than justified the short odds on offer about her chances on the day. She has scope to progress here
5-FITUESE (H Bowman/J Thompson) She had Trialed twice before she resumed at home (Randwick) when she finished off strongly to win over 1100m. She then kept trying last start/Kembla Grange1200m behind Entriviere. She’s ready to tackle this trip
9-ICEBATH (K McEvoy/B Widdup) Her overall winning Strike Rate (three wins/twenty-two starts) might not impress but she’s established a solid effort over this journey. She presents 3rd up here and after settling well back, she is likely to finish off strongly
1-FORBIDDEN LOVE (N Rawiller/R & M Freedman) She was responsible for a pleasing 1st up effort at Randwick when she was produced over only 1100m. Her subsequent Kembla Grange performance was also honest/1200m and this trip should now be ideal
RACE EIGHT 4.05pm XXXX GOLDEN ROSE 1400m
1-ANAMOE (J McDonald/J Cummings) He had only been given the lone lead-up Trial before he resumed from his long spell last start at Kembla Grange/1200m. He almost matched his Personal Best rating on the day. He is Race-fitter and he has more to offer
2-ARTORIUS (J Collett/A & S Freedman) This Mornington based colt presents 3rd up after doing all but win at Flemington when he stepped up to attempt 1400m for a first time. Expect him to concede most an early start from wide out and then hit the line hard
5-IN THE CONGO (T Clark/G Waterhouse & A Bott) He’s a front-running 3YO who makes a Rosehill debut and the track should suit. He found Anamoe, too good very late/Kembla Grange last run but even so, he shouldn’t be underestimated from in front here
7-REMARQUE (H Bowman/M, W & J Hawkes) He presents 3rd up today, competing at his home base for the first time since he made a winning debut four starts ago. Drawing the widest gate proved to be very costly/Kembla Grange last start. He can improve
RACE NINE 4.45pm ACY SECURITIES GLOAMING STAKES 1800m
2-HEAD OF STATE (J McDonald/C Waller) He was produced 3rd up over 1550m on the Kensington Track last start when he kept finding the line strongly against older opposition. He returns to his home track today and he’s ready to cope with this distance rise
6-PROFONDO (R Dolan/R Litt) He Trialed twice earlier in the year before spelling and after two much more recent home track Warwick Farm Trials, he made a stylish winning debut/Kensington Track/1400m last run. He can only make natural improvement
4-ALEGRON (K McEvoy/J Cummings) He outclassed his opposition when he opened his account 1st up at Newcastle before he attempted a major class rise when his last effort was better than it reads on paper/Kembla Grange. He can rate high enough to win 9-FRENCH EMPEROR (T Clark/D Payne) His immaturity was obvious when he was produced on debut behind Profondo before he won easily/Goulburn when he still made mistakes. Significant Gear Changes have now been made, making a home track debut
RACE TEN 5.25pm ELITE SAND & SOIL HANDICAP 1400m
2-ELLSBERG (N Rawiller/G Ryan & S Alexiou) He’s Trialed twice here on his home track in preparation for this 1st up attempt today and he is ready to cope with this testing distance fresh. He won easily after leading 1st up last campaign/1400m at Randwick
5-KIKU (J McDonald/C Waller) This mare Trialed here at home in mid August and then again earlier this month and she now resumes from a spell with all involved hoping history can repeat. She scored with authority 1st up/Warwick Farm last preparation
4-ALL HALLOWS’ EVE (H Bowman/J O’Shea) He was presented 1st up/Kembla Grange last start when he finished unplaced but he can’t be harshly judged as he was entirely outclassed on the day. He is much more suitably placed today and he is proven 2nd up
13-GRANDE RUMORE (A Adkins/K Lees) She is a lightly raced imported 5YO who was beginning her second Australian campaign at Randwick last start when she gave every indication over 1200m that she would greatly appreciate this distance 2nd up
