The Latest Look - TAB Epsom Day

The latest look at the fields and tips by analyst Shane Montgomery for TAB Epsom Day

October 2, 2021

ROYAL RANDWICK                                                  02/10/21                               BEST BET Race Four, 2-KISS THE BRIDE

RACE ONE          11.50am                            MIDWAY HANDICAP                                       1000m

4-CAPITAL REIGN (A Collett/G Portelli) There were excuses for his only defeat during his five starts so far. Today he makes a metropolitan Saturday debut and although he tackles mostly older opposition as a 3YO, he can be expected to cope over this trip

7-DELEXO (K McEvoy/K Buchanan) He is having his first start in town and he presents in search of a hat-trick at his third start since a spell after dominant Muswellbrook and Kembla Grange efforts. Both wins were achieved over this distance. He can go on

3-OH PLEASE DIANNA (J McDonald/A Neasham) This lightly raced mare is having her first start on the Randwick Course Proper and this track should greatly suit her. She has the natural pace to make her own luck up front and 1000m can be ideal today

1-LANCASTER BOMBER (J Collett/R Litt) He is yet to win at Randwick after six attempts but he doesn’t have any problems with the circuit, his career best rating was achieved here only two starts ago. Ignore his last run two weeks ago, there were excuses

RACE TWO         12.Q                ACY SECURITIES PREMIERE STAKES                       1200m

1-MASKED CRUSADER (T Berry/M, W & J Hawkes) He resumed over 1100m at Caulfield when he more than justified the short odds on offer about his chances on the day. He then pulled up with post-race issues here last run. He can regain his best form

5-ROTHFIRE (T Clark/R Heathcote) He’d been given two well-spaced Trials in Queensland before he resumed from a very long spell here over 1100m last run. He finished unplaced but he did also clearly indicate that this slight distance rise will greatly suit

4-JONKER (N Rawiller/T Gollan) After Trialing in Queensland, he resumed over this trip last run at Flemington when he finished unplaced but he can’t be harshly judged for his effort as there were excuses. A most significant Gear Change has now been made!

3-I AM SUPERMAN (J McDonald/P & P Snowden) He Trialed here on his home track earlier this month in preparation for today, when he will be competing as a gelding for the first time. He found the line stylishly, unextended in his Trial and he’s proven fresh

RACE SEVEN   3.25pm                             DARLEY FLIGHT STAKES                                 1600m

5-STARTANTES (S Clipperton/R Heathcote) Most of her opposition today contested the Tea Rose Stakes won by Four Moves Ahead here last start. This filly presents after a very honest effort last week at Rosehill when she was making her Sydney debut

1-FOUR MOVES AHEAD (N Rawiller/J Sargent) A Change of Tactics was announced before she almost matched her Personal Best rating to score here/1400m last start. She now attempts 1600m for the first time and she still has more to offer this campaign

2-MALLORY (H Bowman/G Ryan & S Alexiou) She finished Third here in the Race won by Four Moves Ahead last start before she was promoted in the Stewards Room after she struck early/late trouble in the Straight. Stepping up from 1400m is now a plus

3-SWIFT WITNESS (T Clark/G Waterhouse & A Bott) This filly was having her third start back from her spell when she paid a high price for drawing almost the widest gate here at home last start. She should have an easier run against her opposition today

4-SHE’S ALL CLASS (J McDonald/C Waller) She had always left the gates okay during her five start career before conceded too great a start over 1400m after she jumped awkwardly here last run. Improved Barrier Manners today should allow her to improve

RACE EIGHT   4.05pm                                         TAB EPSOM                                                1600m

9-RIODINI (R King/G Waterhouse & A Bott) He is well advanced into his second Australian preparation and he has the pace to cheaply overcome his wide gate today. He’ll figure in the finish if he matches his career best effort here over this journey last start

1-MO’UNGA (T Berry/A Neasham) He matched what at the time was a Personal Best rating when he resumed here two starts ago before he rated even higher when he stepped up from 1400m to this distance/Flemington last run. He did win 3rd up last campaign

6-HUNGRY HEART (K McEvoy/C Waller) She must be forgiven for finishing unplaced when she resumed behind Mo’Unga as she struck interference/1400m. Her subsequent effort here over this trip after a four week break was full of merit. She’s fitter today

7-ICEBATH (R Dolan/B Widdup) This noted back-marker can be expected to concede most an early start but he can also be expected to find the line strongly as others begin to struggle. Backing up from Rosehill last week creates scope for improvement

RACE NINE      4.45pm                           HEINEKEN METROPOLITAN                              2400m

14-ENTENTE (T Clark/G Waterhouse & A Bott) He stepped up to tackle this distance at Rosehill last Saturday when he found the line with no dangers when it counted. He returns to his home track today with this seven day back-up very likely to aid his cause

12-SHE’S IDEEL (J Collett/B Baker) Drawing an awkward gate creates problems for her today but even so, she must not be treated with disrespect. She’s likely to settle down further back than she did here last start over 2000m but then finish off strongly

8-MONTEFILIA (H Bowman/D Payne) She was having her second start back from her spell here last run when she stepped up to tackle 2000m. She handed in strong closing sectionals and she can be expected to relish the distance rise she is attempting today

20-ZEYREK (A Adkins/M, W & J Hawkes) This very lightly raced 5YO is having his third start in his second Australian campaign. He refused to shirk his task in defeat when he was presented here/2000m last start and he’s already looking for 2400m

RACE TEN       5.20pm                               CLEANAWAY HANDICAP                                  1200m

12-GRAVINA (R King/J Cummings) After Trialing at Wyong, he resumed here two weeks ago when he handed in a most pleasing effort/1100m. He can be expected to greatly appreciate the slight distance rise he’s attempting now and he’s proven 2nd up

1-BIG PARADE (J Parr/M Newnham) He was never threatened when he tackled this trip/Kembla Grange before stepping up slightly in distance after four weeks off wasn’t ideal on the same track last start. He’s at home today and he’s more suitably placed

6-FENDER (J Collett/B Cavanough) He was produced after a six week break without a lead-up Trial when he was anything but disgraced here over this distance last start with Jason Collet aboard. He again presents after six weeks off but he did Trial recently!

2-PRIME CANDIDATE (J McDonald/B Baker) This lightly raced Warwick Farm trained 7YO resumes today. He has been given two well spaced home track Trials. In those Trials, he’s clearly indicated that he would greatly appreciate this distance fresh today
