TAB EPSOM DAY DELIVERS PLENTY OF EXCITEMENT
October 1, 2022
Racing returned in style to Royal Randwick for TAB Epsom Day as the Sydney Everest Carnival continued.
A big crowd enjoyed top-class racing which featured three Group 1 races, plenty of activations and entertainment to make it a memorable day.
It was a finish for the ages in the $1.5 million Group 1 TAB Epsom which resulted in a dead-heat between Top Ranked and Ellsberg.
Top Ranked for Annabel Neasham with Hugh Bowman in the saddle was joined on the line by Ellsberg who got up along the inside with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle for Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou.
It was a long wait for all concerned as the judge finally put up the dead heat result.
The Group 1 Furphy Metropolitan followed and was another tight finish with this time No Compromise for Chris Waller ridden by Tommy Berry prevailing. He edged out Le Don De Vie and Realm Of Flowers.
The other Group 1 of the day was the Darley Flights Stakes for three-year-old fillies which was the final race in the Darley Princess Series. Exciting filly Zougotcha was super impressive racing away to victory for Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald.
Punters got an early taste of what to expect in the $15 million TAB Everest on 15 October in the Group 2 Bisley Workwear Premiere Stakes. Lost And Running rewarded favourite punters by winning and beating off Masked Crusader and Mazu. The top three will all line-up in the world’s richest turf race in two weeks time.
One of the places to be was the WINX Stand which is open to all racegoers. It featured DJ’s and food outlets with plenty gathering on the Leger lawn to get close to the racing action. While upstairs the view from the terrace which is home to the Happy Clapper Bar was popular. On Everest Day the ground floor of WINX Stand will turn into Club Cuba which is free for all racegoers.
The crowd danced the day away in the Theatre Of The Horse to Queen Forever as the tribute band belted out some of the classics ‘After The Last’.
