Three Group 1 races will headline a spectacular Black Type program this Saturday, 1 October at TAB Epsom Day as Royal Randwick celebrates Sydney’s pinnacle Spring Carnival event.
The ATC has taken things to a new level to provide racegoers with the best on track experience to date.
New to the Sydney Spring Carnival is The Mews by delicious. Located on the Octagonal Lawn, The Mews is the Sydney Spring Carnival’s hottest food destination where racegoers can indulge in the finest Australian produce and gourmet delicacies.
Prepared by ATC Chefs and showcasing providores from the four delicious. Produce Awards categories; earth, paddock, sea and dairy, The Mews gives all racegoers the opportunity to experience the best that Royal Randwick’s award winning Chefs produce every week in the premium on-course restaurants.
The Bucket List is back for again for 2016, bringing the best of its iconic Bondi Beach venue to the track for their second year. Chef Tom Walton will be preparing some of the venue’s favourite beachside fare and guest can enjoy the musical styling of Yolanda Be Cool throughout the day in the hugely popular and fashionable marquee trackside on the Leger Lawn.
In celebration of the national sporting weekend, the ATC is also bringing the AFL Grand Final trackside with a live site on the Octagonal Lawn. NRL Grand Final ticket holders get FREE entry to Royal Randwick on Saturday by presenting their ticket at the gate.
Racegoers will have the chance to tap into their inner Bon Jovi and re-create TAB’s new “We Love A Bet” adverts at the Octagonal Lawn, with the best rendition winning an exclusive meet and greet with Richie Sambora and Orianthi prior to their performance.
To close off a fantastic day, International rock legend, Richie Sambora and extraordinary singer/songwriter Orianthi, will perform live over-looking the spectacular Theatre of the Horse after the final race.
Free event transport is also included with all valid pre-purchased tickets and ATC Members to ensure a hassle free arrival and departure from Royal Randwick. Valid pre-purchased event tickets include return travel to Randwick Racecourse on train services (bounded by Bomaderry, Goulburn, Bathurst and Dungog stations) as well as event shuttle buses that will run from Central and Bondi Junction stations.
The racing feature of the Sydney Spring Carnival, the Group 1 $1 million TAB Epsom Handicap has five-year-old Hauraki as the $5.50 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.
Falling short to Winx in his last run, Hauraki will drop 3kg this start when he contests the Royal Randwick mile.
Victorian visitor Palentino, trained by Darren Weir, and Chris Waller’s McCreery both fall on the second line of betting at $6.00 TAB Fixed Odds.
Both runners are last start winners and have tasted success over the distance on two occasions.
Punters have also shown support for light-weight Fabrizio ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds) who will be partnered with visiting French jockey Johan Victoire.
Singapore-based Group 1 jockeys Glen Boss and Corey Brown will also return to Australia to compete.
Boss has the ride on Group 1 $750,000 McGrath Estate Agents Metropolitan favourite Antonio Giuseppe ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) who will be looking for his fifth consecutive win.
Brown will accompany two Black Type winners in Sense of Occasion ($21.00 TAB Fixed Odds) in the McGrath Estate Agents Metropolitan and Heavens Above ($16.00 TAB Fixed Odds) in the TAB Epsom Handicap.
Golden Slipper runner up Yankee Rose will start a short priced $1.90 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in the Group 1 $500,000 Sydney Airport Flight Stakes after the withdrawal of the Chris Waller trainer Omei Sword. Stewards have been advised that the three-year-old is expected to run with cover in Saturday’s event at Royal Randwick.
