Ten Australian Turf Club races have been officially rated in the top 100 of the world’s highest-rated races at the Longines World’s Best Race and Racehorse Awards.
Three Australian Turf Club races – in the intermediate, middle distance and long distance categories – were the highest rated amongst all Australian Group 1 races in their categories.
These were the Group 1 Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick, Group 1 TAB Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick and Group 1 KIA Tancred Stakes (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
The ATC’s 10 races in the top 100 is the highest number of any Race Club anywhere in international thoroughbred racing.
Overall, amongst the top 100 rated Group 1 races worldwide were the TJ Smith Stakes (equal 26th), Longines Queen Elizabeth (equal 29th), Ranvet Stakes (equal 43rd), TAB Chipping Norton (equal 51st), Agency George Ryder (equal 74th) and Fujitsu George Main, KIA Tancred Schweppes All Aged Stakes and Winx Stakes (equal 82) and De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose (equal 98th).
Classique Legend who won the 2020 TAB Everest and runner up Bivouac were rated equal highest rated sprinters in the world, and equal third of all racehorses across all distances.
UK galloper Addeybb who won the Ranvet Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes double in the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival was rated equal third best horse in the world.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said: “The official Longines World’s Best ratings again show the Australian Turf Club has amongst the strongest racing across all distances and categories in the world.
“Interestingly, whilst these ratings only cover Group 1 races, the quinella in the TAB Everest has provided the two highest sprinters in the world, further highlighting the strength of a race in just its fourth year.
“Whilst we haven’t had the benefit of Winx’s high race ratings in 2020, overall ATC races in the top 100 have further increased to 10.”
