Royal Randwick will host its last race meeting for the 2016/17 season this Saturday, 22 July as two of Sydney’s top jockeys fight out a thrilling Premiership battle.
Hugh Bowman remains the front-runner in the NSW Metropolitan Jockey Premiership by ½ win over Brenton Avdulla and will be looking to extend that lead in the $100,000 July Sprint.
Bowman will take the ride on Kris Lees-trained Felines in the feature race of the day, who opened as the $3.80 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in an open field.
The five-year-old mare is proven over the distance and has completed two barrier trials leading into this test.
Punters cannot spilt That’s A Good Idea ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds), trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, and Robert Smerdon’s Reldas ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds), who opened on the second line of betting.
That’s A Good Idea will have his first run since 29 April where he ran second to Felines, while Reldas will be looking to redeem himself following his seventh place last start.
Royal Randwick Racecourse Manager Nevesh Ramdhani said the course proper was headed for the Good range on Saturday.
“Although we had another 20mm of rain last week and some more frosts this week, we are only sitting at a Soft 5 in the depth of winter,’’ Mr Ramdhani said.
“I am quietly confident we can get to a Good 4 at some stage on Saturday.’’
Racegoers are able to purchase an exclusive pre-sale offer of five tickets for only $40 at Ticketek.com.au. Adult general admission tickets are available for $15.00 at the gate.
A discounted ATC Membership offer is available for those wanting to upgrade their race day experience to the end of the calendar year. Membership packages are available from $226, a saving of 40% on the 2017 annual fee and will allow full Membership privileges through to 31 December 2017.
Gates Open at 10.30am with the first race at 11.35am.
Free car parking is available at the racecourse and buses will run between Eddy Avenue at Central Station and Royal Randwick racecourse.
