Sydney Everest Carnival Rising To New Heights In World Racing

The 2025 Sydney Everest Carnival has concluded as its most successful in history, breaking a number of records and capturing the attention of international racing.

A record sold-out crowd of 50,167 at Royal Randwick witnessed the world’s highest rated sprinter Ka Ying Rising for trainer David Hayes and jockey Zac Purton win the ninth renewal of the Group 1 $20 million TAB Everest.

The Hong Kong superstar’s win came with a record World Pool wagering total of $A16.44 million – smashing the previous high of $A13.10 million – and was broadcast to more than 200 countries with an audience reach of 560 million viewers.

The seventh running of the $10 million Golden Eagle was taken out by the rising superstar of Australian racing Autumn Glow for Sydney’s champion trainer and jockey duo Chris Waller and James McDonald.

Autumn Glow remains unbeaten in her first eight starts.

Australian Turf Club Interim CEO Steve McMahon said the pinnacle races of the Sydney Spring were two of world racing’s biggest events.

“The TAB Everest and the Golden Eagle are bringing huge new numbers of young people to watch and enjoy Thoroughbred racing at the track and beyond,’’ Mr McMahon said.

“The ATC and Racing NSW have built a new Spring in Sydney which is now attracting the world’s best horses, trainers and connections.’’

The Sydney Everest Carnival at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens ran from 20 September to 8 November and saw 90 races run across 9 meetings.

Chris Waller was the leading trainer on a 3-2-1 basis with 16 wins and 87 points ahead of Ciaron Maher with 7 wins and 41 points and Bjorn Baker with 6 wins and 37 points.

The carnival’s leading jockey was Zac Lloyd with 12 wins and 62 points ahead of Tommy Berry with 10 wins and 47 points and Nash Rawiller on 8 wins and 41 points.

More than $80 million prizemoney was won including in 39 Group (seven Group 1) and Listed races, with 21 races offering $1,000,000 or more in prizemoney.

The Australian Turf Club saw a record number of owners on course across the Spring, with 12,548 attending, up eight per cent on last year’s 11,583 record number.

Amongst a range of highlights and feature wins across the Carnival were:

• Ceolwulf winning his second consecutive King Charles III Stakes at Royal Randwick for Warwick Farm trainer Joe Pride and jockey Chad Schofield
• Autumn Glow with Kerrin McEvoy aboard winning the Group 1 $1.5 million TAB Epsom before her Golden Eagle victory
• Beiwacht winning the Group 1 $1 million Golden Rose for Chris Waller and Adam Hyeronimus at Rosehill Gardens
