December 23, 2021
The Australian Turf Club’s vibrant Summer Festival of Racing across Christmas and New Year at Sydney’s four major racecourses gets into full swing at Royal Randwick on Sunday for the traditional Boxing Day meeting.
The Group 3 $160,000 Schweppes Summer Cup is the feature race on a ten-race card and a day of entertainment which includes a concert after the last race from popular DJ Hot Dub Time Machine.
Sydney’s newest public spectator facility the $46.6 million WINX Stand is again open for all general admission customers once they have entered Royal Randwick.
The Boxing Day meeting is followed by a series of racedays into 2022, including New Year’s Day at Royal Randwick, free entry to Warwick Farm on Wednesday 5 January, KIA Friday Night Racing at Canterbury Park on 7 January and a return to Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 8 January.
At Sunday’s Boxing Day meeting a competitive betting race sees Stockman trained by Joe Pride at Warwick Farm and with Jay Ford aboard opening a $3.60-$3.80 TAB favourite in the Group 3 Schweppes Summer Cup.
Two last start Sydney winners – Polly Grey (Chris Waller and Jason Collett) and Lightning Jack (Annabel Neasham and Tyler Schiller) – are at $4.80 TAB on the second line of Fixed Odds market.
The James Cummings trained Criaderis with top jockey Rachel King has been backed from $6-$5.50 TAB in early betting.
The Royal Randwick track was rated a Soft 6 on Thursday morning after 21mm of overnight rain up to 9am.
