Three of Australian Turf Club’s biggest Everest Carnival races received strong nominations at today’s closing date as Sydney’s highly-anticipated spring starts to hit top gear.
Nominations closed today for the Group One $1 million TAB Epsom (1600m), Group One $750,000 Heineken 3 The Metropolitan (2400m) and Group One $500,000 Darley Flight Stakes (1600m).
A total of 87 horses were nominated for this year’s TAB Epsom and 81 horses in the Heineken 3 The Metropolitan.
The Darley Flight Stakes – the final leg of the Darley Princess Series – attracted 77 entries.
Each of the Group One races will be run on a bumper card at Royal Randwick on Saturday 29 September, part of a super long weekend of sport in Sydney.
ATC General Manager of Racing and Wagering James Ross said: “We have continued to see good numbers in each of these races with many of Australia’s biggest stables.
“In particular we have great support from leading Victorian trainers including Darren Weir, Mick Price, Liam Howley and the Hayes/Dabernig team.
“This year’s Everest Carnival promises some world-class racing through September and October.’’
Weights for the two feature handicap races the TAB Epsom and Heineken 3 The Metropolitan will be released by Racing NSW on Monday 10 September.
