The Australian Turf Club has received 355 second nominations for the iconic Group 1 $5 million Longines Golden Slipper as the world’s richest race for two-year-olds rises to a new level in the Sydney Autumn.
Leading stables from across Australia have nominated 188 colts and geldings and 167 fillies for this year’s $5 million Longines Golden Slipper to be run at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 19 March.
This year’s race has received a $1.5 million prizemoney boost, along with a further $1 million bonus on offer from the Australian Turf Club for any horse which wins two key pathway races along with the ultimate prize the Longines Golden Slipper.
Stables and trainers with the highest number of second nominations include James Cummings for Godolphin (29), Annabel Neasham (26), Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott (23), Kacy Fogden (20), Team Hawkes (19), Snowden Racing (17) and Ciaron Maher Racing (16).
Sires with the highest number of second entries are I Am Invincible (35), Snitzel (30), Zoustar (22), Capitalist (19), Written Tycoon (19) and Shalaa (15).
The five pathway races to qualify for the chance of the $1 million bonus are listed in the table below.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said the $5 million Longines Golden Slipper remained the race that shaped the Australian racing and breeding industry.
“We are very pleased with such a strong list of second nominations which shows great support in the prizemoney increase and the Australian Turf Club’s bonus initiatives,’’ Mr Ross said.
“There is great depth in the nominations, with the best two-year-olds we have seen so far this year including Gimcrack Stakes and Magic Millions winner Coolangatta, and impressive Breeders Plate and Golden Gift winner Sejardan.
“From January right through the next seven weeks we will continue to see the very best two years old competing for a spot in the biggest prize in two-year-old thoroughbred racing.’’
