STARS COME OUT ON XXXX GOLDEN ROSE DAY

September 25, 2021

In The Congo took out the Group 1 $1 million XXXX Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on day two of the Everest Carnival at Rosehill Gardens.

The star three-year-old colt from the Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott stable was well ridden by Tim Clark who claimed his 18th Group 1 success with the victory.

“It’s a big thrill. We always thought he had that sort of ability. He has come back and got it right every time,” Clark told Sky Racing’s Lizzie Jelfs.

It was a big day at Rosehill Gardens for Waterhouse-Bott and Clark as they combined for three winners, which also featured a Group 2 (Vangelic – Keeneland Golden Pendant) and Group 3 (Entente – Colin Stephen Quality) victory.

“We have built up a really strong partnership and it’s an honour to be riding for the stable and days like today are very special,” Clark said of the partnership with the Waterhouse-Bott stable.

Vangelic from the inside draw ridden by Tim Clark proved too strong holding out Nimalee and favourite Entriviere in the Group 2 Keeneland Golden Pendant (1400m).

The same trainer-jockey pairing took out the Group 3 Drinkwise Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) when Clark put in another stellar performance on Entente.

In other news, Chris Waller tasted success with three winners on the day including: Yonkers (Group 2 Shannon Stakes), Home Affairs (Listed Heritage Stakes) and Yiyi (Precise Air Handicap).

The Group 2 Ned Whisky Shannon Stakes (1500m) saw a massive upset with six-year-old Yonkers ($51 TAB) recording a narrow victory over Discharged with Glyn Schofield in the saddle for Chris Waller.

Three-year-old colt Home Affairs stamped himself as a potential TAB Everest contender after a dominant first-up win in the Listed Petaluma Heritage Stakes (1100m) with Nash Rawiller in the saddle.

Coolmore are yet to confirm their runner for the world’s richest race on turf at Royal Randwick on October 16, but it’s expected they will lock in the talented I Am Invincible colt.

The Everest Carnival continues next Saturday when races returns to Royal Randwick for TAB Epsom Day on October 2.
