The return of the Golden Slipper winner Vancouver headlines a quality field in the Group 3 $125,000 Smithfield RSL San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday as some of the big guns warm up ahead of the Sydney Spring Carnival.
The Gai Waterhouse trained colt is a $2.25 TAB Fixed Odds favourite to maintain his unbeaten record on Saturday as he takes his first step towards the $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose in September. Vancouver takes on champion trainer Chris Waller’s in-form Japonisme ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) and the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Redzel ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) in the feature event on Clubs NSW Western Metropolitan Race Day. Saturday at Rosehill Gardens brings together some of Western Sydney’s biggest clubs on the 25th anniversary of a partnership between the Australian Turf Club and Clubs NSW.
The partnership is part of the ATC’s bond with the local Western Sydney community and will include a special presentation by Clubs NSW to the State Emergency Service. Amongst the Western Sydney Clubs who are supporting the race day include Smithfield RSL, Fairfield RSL, the Mounties Group, Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL, Dooley’s, St John’s Park Bowling Club and Merrylands RSL. Members of all of these clubs plus all western metropolitan clubs can go to a weblink at http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/Show.aspx?sh=SATURFRE15 to receive free entry to Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
It also comes as the ATC continues to invest in Western Sydney’s premier racecourse, with work starting on a multi-million refurbishment of the JR Fleming Grandstand. Some parts of the JR Fleming Grandstand will be closed as work begins on the first stage of a new indoor betting ring, as well as a full refurbishment of restaurants and bars on several levels.
The ATC’s popular Super Saver ticket is available at www.theraces.com.au until midday on Friday, and includes entry to the racecourse, a racebook, a Vili’s Pie as well as a standard drink voucher, and another entry ticket to a Saturday Race Day before the end of August. TAB Rewards Club Members who place bets on Saturday on EBTs on course receive double reward points, whilst a $50,000 jackpot has been added to the BIG 6 pool. Australian Turf Club Head of Commercial Rohan Sawyer said Western Sydney was a major part of the 25th anniversary between Clubs NSW and the ATC. “We are proud of our role as a major venue in Western Sydney and Saturday brings together some of the region’s biggest supporters of the local community,’’ Mr Sawyer said.
Rosehill Gardens offers free parking and scheduled train services which stop directly outside the racecourse.
