ROYAL RANDWICK JOINS RACING AND THE NATION TO COMMEMORATE ANZAC DAY
April 21, 2023
The Australian Turf Club will join race clubs and communities across NSW to commemorate Anzac Day this Tuesday, with Royal Randwick hosting a special ceremony as part of the raceday.
Entry to the eight-race Royal Randwick meeting on the Kensington track is free with the Australian Turf Club also offering a variety of food and beverage specials to all customers.
A commemorative Anzac Day service will be held at 2.05pm after race 3 and include the Mounting of Catafalque Party, Remembrance Prayer, Laying of Wreaths, recital of the Ode and Last Post, a minute’s silence and Rouse.
The Australian National Anthem will be performed live on course by Matilda Moran.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said Sydney racing had a strong history linked to the nation’s armed services, stretching back to World War I.
“Anzac Day remains an important part of our Club and community as we remember those past and present in Australia, New Zealand and beyond who have served,’’ Mr Barkley said.
Full fields for Tuesday’s public holiday meeting are available here.
Jockeys across the eight races will carry a special Anzac Day commemorative set of silks.
A variety of food and beverage specials will be available on course all day at Royal Randwick on Anzac Day including $2 for soft drinks and a selection of $5 beer and wine options.
Gates (free entry) this Tuesday open at 11.15am for Australian Turf Club Members and 11.30am for General Admission.
The first race at Royal Randwick is due to start at 12.35pm.
