Royal Randwick Back In Action For Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation

Saturday racing returns to Royal Randwick this week coinciding with the Australian Turf Club joining long-standing charity partner Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation in support of outreach nurses helping young cancer patients.
The ten-race card has attracted a huge 164 entries and includes handicaps sponsored by great supporters of Sporting Chance’s Outreach Programs for kids with cancer and their families at Randwick’s Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Saturday is the 19th anniversary of the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation Day with 400 guests in the Royal Randwick Ballroom raising funds and awareness to add to the more than $17 million raised for nurses to help children with cancer to remain at home for as long as possible whilst still undergoing treatment.
After providing funds to Westmead Children’s Hospital for 22 years, SCCF has branched out to Randwick Sydney Children’s Hospital, funding the James Tedesco Outreach Program for the past 3 years.
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Steve McMahon said Saturday’s raceday was the first of several in coming months hosted by the Club with a variety of partners.
“We are delighted to again join with the Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation for one of the biggest charity events all year at our racedays,’’ Mr McMahon said.
“Raceday such as these are a wonderful example of the Club and the wider racing industry giving back to causes and community groups.’’
Sporting Chance Cancer Foundation was started in 1998 by former Australian Cricket Captain Mark Taylor, rugby league legend the late Reg Gasnier, Olympian Raelene Boyle and triple AFL Brownlow Medalist Bob Skilton.
The Foundation’s Jack Hughes said: “In 2025/2026 the outreach program has provided care for over 1000 kids with cancer across metropolitan & regional NSW per annum by implementing specialised paediatric oncology care, addressing critical gaps in service delivery.
“Fundraising at our annual Royal Randwick race day provides vital support for our outreach nurses”
