The competition will open at 11.00am and close at 4.30pm with the winner announced on the big screen at 5.00pm.
General admission customers who pre-purchase tickets at www.theraces.com.au before midnight on Friday will be treated to a complimentary flute of Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial, valued at $25.
Those backing their trivia skills on the day will be able to test their knowledge and win a free bet courtesy of TAB. TAB representatives will be roaming the course in search of Rosehill Garden’s smartest to correctly answer a short quiz to collect their prize.
Australian Turf Club Chief Operating Officer Tony Partridge said he is excited to see the return of racing at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday.
“Royal Randwick has seen four successive weeks of wonderful crowds enjoying the spring racing season and it will be great to welcome patrons back to Rosehill Gardens for Derby Day,” said Mr Partridge.
“With racing headlined across the country this weekend, racegoers will be able to enjoy all of the action on the track in Sydney as well as all of the feature racing from Flemington live on the biggest screen in Australia throughout the day.”
On the track, the $40,000 TAB Highway Handicap will see a full field of 16 runners face the starter.
Luxury for Danny Williams with Tye Angland booked to take the ride, and Invienna trained by Greg Bennett with in-form jockey Winona Costin, are the favoured of the runners sitting at $4.60 TAB Fixed Odds.
However Ken Callaughan’s Cricklewood ($9.50 TAB Fixed Odds) will be looking for a third consecutive win this start and will also be one to watch.
The $85,000 Radford Soundscreen Handicap will also be hotly contested with Gerald Ryan-trained Inz’N’Out, ridden by Joshua Parr opening as the $2.60 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.
The four-year-old will be hard to beat with Fine Mist ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) for Bede Murray and Religify ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds), who is prepared by Sydney’s leading trainer Chris Waller, the likely contenders.
Most of the juveniles lining up in the $85,000 Viridian Lightbridge Plate will be having their maiden start with Telperion from the John O’Shea stable heavily supported at $1.90 TAB Fixed Odds.
O’Shea will also have Pxy Chamber ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds) in the race. The colt has the competitive advantage of completing one run prior to this weekend’s start.
