Canterbury Park’s KIA Night Racing has just completed another-record breaking Summer race series over the past three months, increasingly embraced by the local community, Australian Turf Club Members and thoroughbred owners.

Overall crowds increased by 7 per cent on the previous year for the ten meetings of the 2019/2020 season from November to February.

The opening night on 15 November attracted an all-time record crowd of 8,874.

This record crowd contributed to a total of almost 54,000 people over the season – despite three nights in January being severely impacted by wet weather.

The Foodie Markets again increased in numbers this year and continues to be a huge attraction for families and the local community.

Free entry, free family entertainment and the popular jockey “meet and greet sessions” around the refurbished stage trackside were major drawcards.

With this great value for money also came increased bookings in the premium Members and guests spaces in the Guineas Restaurant.

The three course meal and beverage packages were very popular with Australian Turf Club Members, as well as owners who enjoyed a special raceday experience.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said KIA Friday Night racing had gone to another level this year.

“We are thrilled with the growing success of these night meetings across all areas as we continue to provide more offerings and value for racegoers,” Mr Barkley said.

“To increase a sporting attendance in Sydney is always a challenge so to be up 7 per cent is a great achievement, especially with the wet weather affecting several nights.

“We particularly thank the local community for attending and enjoying this wonderful racecourse and its atmosphere at KIA Friday nights.

“I also pay tribute to all of the Australian Turf Club staff who have worked hard to make these meetings vibrant and such a success right through the Summer.”
