CHARITIES COME TOGETHER IN RACING FOR GOOD AT ROYAL RANDWICK
July 20, 2022
The Australian Turf Club, ATC Foundation and ASX Refinitiv Charity Foundation host Sydney’s inaugural Racing For Good charity raceday at Royal Randwick on Saturday, joining with one of the Club’s longest standing partners for the final blacktype race of the 2021/22 racing season.
The Listed $160,000 ATC Foundation Winter Challenge is the feature of a ten-race card as ASX Refinitiv – a charity partner supporting Australian based children’s disability and medical research – raises funds at a special function in the Royal Randwick Ballroom.
The Australian Turf Club also recognises stable staff across Sydney racecourses on Saturday in concert with the ATC Foundation’s contributions to the racing industry. The ATC Foundation, established in 2018, provides grants to not-for-profit organisations and local community partnerships in and around Sydney racecourses including charity business partners, racing industry and volunteer groups.
Almost 600 people will come together in a sold-out function in the Royal Randwick Ballroom for a three-course lunch package which includes a major raffle prize of a KIA STONIC, Fashions On The Field, a live silent auction and live entertainment.
Australian Turf Club Chairman Matthew McGrath said the Club and its Members along with the ATC Foundation was continuing to support communities across NSW.
“Since its inception in 2018, the ATC Foundation has distributed more than $700,000 to racing and community groups around Sydney and towns across NSW, most recently supporting areas impacted by floods,’’ Mr McGrath said.
“As we come to the end of another racing season we are delighted to join at Royal Randwick with one of our leading charity partners in ASX Refinitiv for this inaugural event as we raise more funds and enjoying Sydney’s world-class racing for many worthwhile causes.’’
Highly consistent Jojo Was A Man for Royal Randwick trainer John Thompson and top apprentice Reece Jones has opened a $3.70-$3.60 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in the ATC Foundation Winter Challenge.
The combination are looking for their third win at Royal Randwick in just the past four starts.
Oscar Zulu trained by soon-to-be 12-time Sydney Premiership winner Chris Waller and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy is a $6.50-$6 TAB second favourite.
Two high-class gallopers owned by Australian Bloodstock in Gold Trip (Ciaron Maher and David Eustace and jockey Jason Collett) and Mugatoo (Kris Lees and jockey Hugh Bowman) are joint next in betting at $8 TAB.
Mugatoo won the Winter Challenge two years ago with Hugh Bowman aboard as the champion hoop this Saturday aims for a third consecutive win in the race.
In the main sprint race of the day – the $150,000 ASX Refinitiv Charity July Sprint – Easy Single for trainers Maher and Eustace and jockey William Pike opens a $3.60-$3 TAB Fixed Odds favourite, ahead of Rocketing By ($4.60-$4 TAB) for Warwick Farm trainer David Pfieffer and jockey Hugh Bowman. Race 7 this Saturday is the ATC Thank You Stable Staff Handicap, which has attracted runners from Sydney’s three major training centres of Royal Randwick, Rosehill Gardens and Warwick Farm.
