Rosehill Gardens hosts Australia’s first pink raceday this Saturday as the Australian Turf Club’s iconic Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival launches in spectacular style at Chandon Ladies Day.
The prestigious Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic is the feature racing event on the track as Sydney showcases six weeks of world-class thoroughbred racing at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick.
Saturday marks the first three weeks of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival at Rosehill Gardens, including the world’s richest race for two-year-olds the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper on 21 March, followed by Stakes Day on 28 March.
In partnership with the McGrath Foundation this Saturday, all racegoers are being urged to wear a splash of pink as part of their raceday outfit, with Rosehill Gardens swept by splashes of pink fashion and fun across the racecourse.
The Australian Turf Club hosts the inaugural Pink Fashion Lunch in the Grand Pavilion to raise awareness and funds for Breast Care Nurses.
Popular artist Samantha Jade will perform as part of the ticketed Pink Fashion Lunch, with a limited number of tables remaining at theatc.com.au
Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley said Saturday started six weeks of world-class racing, entertainment and hospitality for Sydney sporting fans.
“Saturday’s inaugural pink raceday is a wonderful way to launch what has become one of Sydney and world racing’s most prestigious events,” Mr Barkley said.
“Autumn is an iconic time for Sydney racing and we look forward to welcoming everyone from this Saturday to enjoy all of the fun and live action that only a day on track can bring.”
The Hawkes Racing trained Sylvia’s Mother for jockey Tommy Berry is the early $4.20 TAB favourite in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic – one of the most sought-after events for fillies and mares in Australia.
Sweet Deal ($4.40 TAB) for trainer John Thompson and jockey Nash Rawiller and Pohutukawa ($5.50) James Cummings/James McDonald are next in the market in a wide-open betting race.
Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has four of the 16 runners in the Coolmore Classic as he attempts to train his first winner of a race his father legendary trainer Max Lees holds the record in with five.
Saturday also sees the final pathway to the Group 1 $3.5 million Longines Golden Slipper – with the running of the Group 3 $170,000 Bowermans Commercial Furniture Pago Pago Stakes for the colts and geldings and Group 3 $170,000 Antler Luggage Magic Night Stakes for the fillies.
The winners of both races will be exempt from ballot in the Longines Golden Slipper Stakes.
Ilovemyself ($2.90 TAB) for Melbourne trainer Greg Eurell and jockey Nash Rawiller in the colts and geldings event and Stellar Pauline ($3 TAB) for Peter and Paul Snowden and jockey Kerrin McEvoy for the fillies are the early TAB favourites.
Saturday’s meeting also features two Group 2 and a further two Group 3 races, including two of Australasia’s star fillies Probabeel and Funstar in the Group 2 $200,000 Chandon Phar Lap Stakes.
Funstar for Sydney’s champion trainer Chris Waller and jockey James McDonald is the $1.95 TAB favourite as she looks to avenge her last start defeat in the Group 1 Surround Stakes to top Kiwi filly Probabeel ($2.60 TAB) for gun trainer Jamie Richards.
The Group 2 $200,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes features amongst the most open betting races on the card, with Quackerjack the $5 TAB favourite, trained by in-form Group 1 trainer and jockey combination Mark Newnham and Josh Parr.
The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a Soft 7 on Thursday morning.
