Quinton and the Coolmore
March 9, 2022
Ron Quinton has the distinction of winning the Coolmore Classic as both a jockey and a trainer. Quinton was leading jockey in Sydney throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Under trainer Theo Green he was leading apprentice in 1967 and then on reaching the ranks of senior jockey won the premiership eight times. When he hung up his saddle, he had ridden 2168 winners with 46 at Group 1 level.
In the Coolmore, Quinton won twice in the saddle. First up was the inaugural running in 1973 aboard Miss Personality. Though she would not have any other major wins, Quinton would continue to have success in the Coolmore. He won again as a jockey in 1984 aboard the champion mare Emancipation.
When he joined the ranks of trainer, Quinton’s association with the Coolmore continued. He trained Ofcourseican to the win in 2012 and Peeping in 2016. Then in 2018 and 2019, Quinton trained stable mates Daysee Doom and Dixie Blossoms to respective wins.
