Stakes racing headlines the nine race card this Winter Stakes Race Day on Saturday, 15 July at Rosehill Gardens.
Hugh Bowman has overtaken Brenton Avdulla as the front-runner in the NSW Metropolitan Jockey Premiership by ½ win and will be looking to extend that in Avdulla’s absence this weekend.
Bowman will take the ride on Gold Symphony ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds) in the feature race of the day, the Listed $150,000 ATC Winter Stakes.
The four-year-old gelding, trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, had a strong run to the post for his win in the Listed Civic Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on 1 July.
Stablemate Extensible ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds) has also accepted to take her place in the full field of 16 (including three emergencies).
The five-year-old chestnut has been successful on three occasions over the 1400m distance.
Mark Newnham-trained five-year-old will be chasing a hat-trick of wins this start.
Proven over the distance, the Northern Meteor progeny opened as the $4.00 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.
Rosehill Gardens Track Manager Chris Toogood said the course proper was rated a Good 4 on Thursday morning and was expected to stay in that range for Saturday’s meeting.
“Rosehill Gardens missed all of the rain that hit the coast and Canterbury Park races on Wednesday, so we are sitting comfortably in the Good 4 range,’’ Mr Toogood said.
“The weather forecast is for 18 degrees on Friday and with no more rain predicted for the remainder of the week, the track will remain Good if that forecast holds.’’
