The Australian Turf Club is continuing to build new infrastructure for Sydney racing with the first stages of planning under way on a new synthetic training surface at Royal Randwick.

ATC and Racing NSW have begun due diligence on the planning and construction of the all-weather synthetic training track.

Once complete, all four of Sydney’s racecourses – Warwick Farm, Rosehill Gardens, Canterbury Park and Royal Randwick – will have synthetic surfaces for use by all trainers across Sydney.

ATC and Racing NSW are also preparing plans to begin a full renovation of the main sand training track at Royal Randwick.

Both of the new projects will continue in close consultation with Royal Randwick trainers and the NSW Trainers Association.

Australian Turf Club Acting Chief Executive James Heddo said the Royal Randwick synthetic training track would give trainers the same variety of training surfaces as other centres.

“An all-weather synthetic surface will bring Royal Randwick in line with all other ATC training centres as we continue to build, maintain and improve training and racing infrastructure at all of our racecourses,’’ Mr Heddo said.
