The Australian Turf Club hosts its fourth annual Industry Recognition Day this Saturday at Royal Randwick for a series of special awards to thoroughbred owners and racing participants, as a new racing calendar year begins.

On the first Saturday of the new racing season, the Australian Turf Club will present a range of awards for the 2019/20 season as well as making presentations to the metropolitan premiership winning trainer, jockey and apprentice.

At an Owners Recognition Morning Tea function in the Royal Randwick Grand Ballroom, awards for the 2019/2020 racing season will be presented including:
Most winning owner; highest strike rate owner; most improved horse; most wins ATC courses; most starts ATC courses; most starts at Canterbury KIA Friday Night Racing; and most starts at ATC courses by a horse trained outside the Metropolitan area.

Two special achievement awards will be presented.

One of Australia’s most popular gallopers Happy Clapper along with owner Michael Thomas and trainers Pat and Wayne Webster will be recognised for the horse’s success on ATC tracks throughout a career which included 12 wins and 18 placings from 38 starts, and more than $7.3 million prizemoney.

A second special achievement award will be made to the connections of Redzel – winner of the first two TAB Everest races at Royal Randwick and a winner of more than $16.4 million prizemoney.
The Australian Turf Club will also acknowledge the previous season’s champion trainer and jockey.

Rosehill Gardens trainer Chris Waller – for his tenth consecutive Sydney metropolitan trainers title – will be given a special presentation following race 5.

He will be joined by champion jockey James McDonald, who took out his fourth senior jockeys title, and apprentice Robbie Dolan, for his second consecutive apprentice title.

Australian Turf Club General Manager Racing, Wagering and International James Ross said: “This raceday is important to celebrate the significant contribution of owners, trainers, jockeys, stable staff and horses at all Australian Turf Club tracks through the year.

“We have more than 8,000 starters each year on our tracks which highlights the huge effort of our industry participants every week.”

The Royal Randwick track was rated a Heavy 9 on Thursday morning following a further 114mm of rain over the past seven days.

Bookmakers will also return to the track this Saturday across General Admission and Members areas throughout the Queen Elizabeth II Grandsstand.
