LUCKY DAD HAS RACE IN HIS NAME ON RUN TO THE ROSE DAY

September 8, 2022

Greg Davis looked at the fields for Saturday at Rosehill Gardens and couldn’t believe he had a race with his name on it.

Race 5 this Saturday is the Greg Davis Handicap (1100m) after his daughter won the ‘Win A Race Named After Your Dad’ promotion by the Australian Turf Club as a Father’s Day gift.

Rebecca Davis from the South Coast of NSW was randomly selected from hundreds of entries to win the prize, which also features a “money can’t buy experience” on the day.

Rebecca said: “For as long as I can remember Dad has loved horse racing, every week he would study the race guide and watch the racing channel for tips for Saturday’s races.

“When I saw the promotion I thought I’d enter as this would mean so much to dad.”

Greg attends the races every week when he can and loves his annual trip to the Wagga Cup each year with a group of friends.

‘I can’t wait to see and hear how much he will enjoy Saturday watching the race named after him,” Rebecca said.

Greg from Sydney’s west said his all-time favourite horse was Winx. “I’ve got plenty of her memorabilia at home around the bar. I just loved how exciting she was to watch and I never missed a race.

“I’ve always loved racing and especially going to the track with friends and having a good time and taking in the atmosphere.

“I have a few shares in horses with mates and get away once a year for our annual trip down to the Wagga Cup.”

Greg will enjoy a day in the award-winning restaurant the Winning Post with his wife and two friends and watch the Greg Davis Handicap from the mounting yard.

The bumper meeting at Rosehill Gardens features The Run To The Rose and return of the Longines Golden Slipper winner Fireburn.
