Legendary rocker joins Hot Dub Time Machine on The Star Championships all-star line-up
March 31, 2021
Rock legend Jon Stevens will perform as the headline act on The Star Championships Day 2 – Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day at Royal Randwick (Saturday 17 April 2021). Revered as the legendary lead singer of iconic Aussie band Noiseworks, Stevens will perform an array of the band’s most popular hits such as ‘Take Me Back’, ‘Touch’ and ‘Hot Chilli Woman’, along with classics from his late friend Michael Hutchence’s INXS including ‘New Sensation’ ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ and ‘Need You Tonight’ after the last race at Royal Randwick. Stevens had been due to play at the Longines Golden Slipper in 2020 at Rosehill Gardens before COVID struck and then in 2021 which was postponed due to torrential rain!
“We are hoping The Championships will be third time lucky,” Stevens said. “We are looking forward to a really good day so that we can celebrate and rock out after winning or losing a few bucks on the horses.”
“I love the races. I love the energy and that everyone is happy and has won or lost a few bucks,” he said. “It’s a great Australian pastime and I’m very happy to be a part of it.”
X Factor and Eurovision star Isaiah Firebrace will also perform a rendition of the national anthem before the feature race.
Internationally acclaimed DJ Hot Dub Time Machine will provide the post-racing entertainment for thousands of racegoers on The Star Championships Day 1 at Royal Randwick, now on Saturday 10 April. The world’s first time-travelling DJ will bring his infectious retro tunes from every decade to the Theatre of the Horse after the last race. Tom Loud (Hot Dub Time Machine) said: ‘I loved playing at my home racecourse Rosehill Gardens on Golden Eagle Day in 2019 and I’m looking forward to getting the party started at Royal Randwick’.
A new and exciting addition to Royal Randwick for The star Championships is The Playground. A vibrant garden party precinct showcasing the Canadian Club Bar, lawn games, and tantalising street food menus, The Playground features cult Sydney DJ’s Jesabel (10 April) and Home and Away star Sarah Roberts (17 April).
Restrictions on dancing have been recently lifted so the after-racing party will be unforgettable. The ATC is delighted to be able support Sydney’s music industry as it re-emerges after such a difficult twelve months. It’s time for Sydney to get its fun back on track.
