As an added incentive for horses sold at Saturday evening’s inaugural Inglis Gold Riband session at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, Inglis has agreed to pay the first entry fees for the 2018 Longines Golden Slipper.

The session’s catalogue saw 57 horses go through the sales ring, with a clearance rate of 89% at Inglis’ Newmarket complex at Randwick.

The Gold Riband concept was created in an attempt to identify the yearlings the Inglis Bloodstock team believed would be competitive in the elite ATC two-year-old races.

Australian Turf Club EGM Racing James Heddo welcomed Inglis’ initiative and support.

“Inglis has a fantastic reputation of producing quality juveniles who have had success in the Club’s feature two-year-old events”, said Mr Heddo.

“ATC looks forward to this initiative continuing at future Inglis sales.”

Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster was excited by the prospect that next year’s Longines Golden Slipper winner could have gone through the sale ring on Saturday.

“The Gold Riband was a session where our Bloodstock team chose what they believed were the most precocious yearlings and those most likely to perform at the top level as two-year-olds, and it was a phenomenal success,’’ Webster said.

“It exceeded all of our expectations and we are very grateful to the vendors who supported the session and the buyers who got behind it.

“It is fantastic to be able to pay the initial Longines Golden Slipper entry fee for each for the 51 horses sold during the Gold Riband and we wish connections all the best as they chase the biggest prize in juvenile racing anywhere in the world.’’

Inglis has been producing champion two-year-olds for 150 years, with the likes of Miss Finland, Forensics, Reisling and Magic Night all going through the Inglis sales ring.

Most recently, Inglis graduate Mossfun took out the 2014 renewal of the Longines Golden Slipper, Yankee Rose dominated in the 2016 Inglis Sires Produces Stakes and the undefeated She Will Reign is the current 2017 Longines Golden Slipper favourite.
