I’M THUNDERSTRUCK TURNS IT ON AS RACING FANS RETURN TO ROSEHILL GARDENS
October 30, 2021
An excited crowd returned to Rosehill Gardens for Golden Eagle Day featuring the $7.5 million XXXX Golden Eagle (1500m) as the Everest Carnival continued.
It was Victorian galloper I’m Thunderstruck trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent (Junior) who ran down Count De Rupee to claim the prize in the XXXX Golden Eagle.
It was a patient and brilliant ride by Hugh Bowman who came from well back in the field to grab Count De Rupee right on the line.
“I’ve been riding a long time and ridden some amazing horses but the feeling I got today is what it’s all about. Honestly, I was a passenger. He just took me to the line and he delivered in spades,” said Hugh Bowman.
It gave Bowman his first win in the $7.5 million race for four-year-olds which was first run in 2019.
I’m Thunderstruck team chose Camp Quality as their charity to donate 10 per cent of their prize money which means they will receive $410,000. Every runner in the XXXX Golden Eagle was aligned to a charity meaning they will receive 10 per cent of prize money.
The $1 million Classique Legend Stakes saw a strong field line-up but it was Eduardo who bounced back after finishing third in The TAB Everest to win beating Lost And Running.
Ridden by Nash Rawiller for Joe Pride the eight-year-old picked up a bonus of $750,000, an incentive for horses that had run in The TAB Everest.
Nash Rawiller had a big day out riding four winners which also included: Katalin (The Agency Real Estate Handicap), Think It Over (Kypreos Group Rosehill Gold Cup) and Ma and Pa (Schweppes Handicap).
Feature racing returns to Rosehill Gardens next Saturday for Golden Gift Ladies Day.
