ICEBATH CLAIMS THE INAUGURAL $2 MILLION THE INVITATION
October 23, 2021
Racegoers at Royal Randwick watched the popular Icebath win the first running of the $2 million The Invitation (1400m) as the Everest Carnival continued on City Tattersalls Club Cup Day.
Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy for Brad Widdup the five-year-old mare came from last to beat Rocha Clock and Forbidden Love in an exciting victory. Finishing second in last year’s $7.5 million Golden Eagle and again runner-up in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile, it was Icebath’s day today. Race favourite and Kiwi mare Entriviere raced more forward and stuck on well to finish in fourth position.
Exciting three-year-old Hilal for Team Hawkes stormed down the outside with Tommy Berry in the saddle to claim the $1 million Bondi Stakes (1600m) from Keefy. It was back-to-back wins for the Fastnet Rock colt who won the Group 2 Stan Fox at his previous start.
The Clubs NSW Tattersalls Club Cup (2400m) saw a great ride from Jenny Duggan which gave Torrens an upset win in the Listed race for Warwick Farm trainer Lauri Parker. It was Torrens second start in seven days after finishing eighth last week in the St Leger.
The other Listed race of the day, the Daily Press Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m) was won by Mazu for Peter and Paul Snowden with a winning ride from Sam Clipperton. The trainer-jockey combination also partnered to win the Robrick Lodge Filante Handicap (1400m) with Exoboom for Triple Crown Syndications.
