HUGH BOWMAN CLAIMS 100th GROUP 1 WIN ON TAB EPSOM DAY

October 2, 2021

There were plenty of highlights on TAB Epsom day at Royal Randwick which featured three Group 1 races on the third day of the Everest Carnival.

Champion jockey Hugh Bowman won his 100th Group 1 race when he took out the Heineken Metropolitan on the David Payne-trained Montefilia.

The four-year-old mare beat home Entente to win the 2400 metre feature race and add another Group 1 win to her list which saw Bowman reach the impressive milestone.

The $1.5 million TAB Epsom was won by the Joseph Pride-trained Private Eye which gave boom jockey Regan Bayliss a Group 1 double for the day. The four-year-old carried 51kg and narrowly edged out Aramayo and Dalasan.

Bayliss earlier in the day won the Group 1 Darley Flight Stakes on Never Been Kissed for the Waterhouse-Bott team which took his Group 1 winning tally to five.

It was also the final leg of the Darley Princess Series which finished as a dead-heat between Swift Witness and Four Moves Ahead both on 8 points.

In other news, Masked Crusader impressed winning the Group 2 ACY Securities Premiere Stakes for Team Hawkes and Tommy Berry stamping himself as a genuine The TAB Everest contender.

The Everest Carnival continues next Saturday at Royal Randwick which features the Group 1 Moet and Chandon Spring Champion Stakes.
