GLOBAL SENSATION JOEL CORRY TO HEADLINE LONGINES GOLDEN SLIPPER DAY
Sheppard, Bjorn Again & Hot Dub Time Machine to perform at Royal Randwick
March 8, 2022
The Australian Turf Club has announced global sensation Joel Corry as the headline act at Longines Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday 19 March 2022 as part of an exciting live music line-up across the six-week Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Australian indie pop band Sheppard, time travelling DJ Hot Dub Time Machine, and globally acclaimed ABBA tribute act Björn Again will also entertain Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival racegoers at Royal Randwick as part of the After The Last concert series – included in all tickets and exclusive to racegoers.
Corry will perform a spectacular set including breakout track Sorry and Head & Heart which spent six weeks at number one in the UK Singles Chart and also became his first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100.
UK-based Corry who has recently been touring the United States is excited to be trackside at Rosehill Gardens with racegoers.
“My heart goes out to those caught up with the devastating floods in NSW and Australia right now, so hopefully I can help bring some joy as part of a great Longines Golden Slipper Day,” Corry said.
The iconic Longines Golden Slipper Day features five Group 1 races – the most on a single raceday in Australia – making it one of the standout events across the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
It includes the 66th running of the $5 million Longines Golden Slipper, a race often regarded as Australia’s best stallion-making contest. The Australian Turf Club also offers premium hospitality experiences, pop-up bars and Sydney’s finest street vendors to deliver an unforgettable atmosphere for racegoers, whilst the coveted Longines Prize for Elegance fashion competition will return.
Australian band Sheppard will perform on The Star Championships Day 1 on Saturday 2 April at Royal Randwick – which includes world-renowned Group 1 races such as the Bentley Australian Derby, The Star Doncaster Mile and TJ Smith Stakes.
The band has stellar credentials at major sporting events with recent shows including the 2020 AFL Grand Final and game two of the 2021 NRL State of Origin. Their high energy line-up including siblings Amy, Emma and George Sheppard will feature ARIA award winning hits Geronimo and Let Me Down Easy.
“We’ve all missed the buzz of performing live on stage to a crowd and can’t wait to play at Sydney’s iconic Royal Randwick for The Star Championships Day 1. It’s going to be a really exciting day and one you won’t want to miss,” said lead vocalist George.
The Championships Day 2, Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day at Royal Randwick on Saturday 9 April, will be headlined by Björn Again. The band has performed over 7,000 concerts in more than 120 countries. Widely regarded as the most successful tribute band of all time, they will perform a repertoire of ABBA’s global hits including Dancing Queen, Mamma Mia and Take A Chance On Me.
The Carnival closes on Saturday 16 April at Royal Randwick with All Aged Stakes Day when the world’s first time-travelling DJ, Tom Loud of Hot Dub Time Machine, will return to the historic Eastern Suburb’s track with his infectious retro tunes. Since first launching his audio-visual party concept in 2011, Hot Dub Time Machine has been a regular on both the national and international music scene, showcasing a setlist of songs from every decade and genre for an electrifying music history lesson.
Loud said that he is excited to party the night away with racegoers.
‘’I can’t wait to close Sydney’s Autumn Racing Carnival. I love a day at the races and Sydney does it like nowhere else. My gig at Royal Randwick a year ago was one of my all-time favourites as the crowd were awesome. I’m delighted to be returning’’.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Commercial Melinda Madigan said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all Australians dealing with the NSW and Queensland flood crisis.
“The Australian Turf Club Foundation will be donating $50,000 and funds raised on course through the sale of official pins during the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival will further support flood relief and registered charitable organisations.
“We are thrilled to present a world-class line-up for Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival to help bring some joy and light entertainment trackside. Joel Corry, Sheppard, Bjorn Again and Hot Dub Time Machine are consummate performers of global renown and will provide excitement and lasting memories for our racegoers.
“We’re delighted to be bringing live music back to Sydney racecourses this year to complement our world-class racing and hospitality,” Ms Madigan said.
