The Australian Turf Club will bring the iconic Fashions on the Field into the future with the unveiling of The Fashion Chute at Royal Randwick for Sydney’s most glamorous race day, Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day on Saturday 8 October 2016.
In a first for racing in Australia, the ATC have teamed up with legendary creative director Tony Assness and renowned backstage and fashion photographer Sonny Vandevelde. The two will give thousands of racegoers a never seen before fashion experience for the chance to win a prize pool of over $75,000 including a black BMW 220i Convertible valued at over $65,000.
It will take fashionistas only a backstage minute to enter the competition and then they are free to enjoy the rest of the world class racing and festivities trackside.
Finalists, both men and women, will be selected and then welcomed back to parade their outfits directly in front of the main grandstand while being judged live by Australia’s biggest names in fashion including Sonny Vandelvelde and race day ambassadors Georgia Fowler and Natalie Roser.
All contestants will walk away with their very own fashion moment and a GIF within Assness’ creation showcasing their race day style to share via social media. Assness comments;
“It’s an exciting opportunity to modernise a racing tradition such as Fashions on the Field. The Fashion Shute installation we have created will give racegoers a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience an industry standard fashion photo shoot with one of the best photographers in the world. Every guest has the opportunity to take home a fashion memento worthy of the pages of Vogue.”
ATC Chief Operating Officer Tony Partridge said the elevation to a more digitally led fashion competition was the next natural progression for Fashions on the Field and this concept opens up the competition to more entrants and allows greater numbers to get into the spirit of racing fashion. Partridge Says;
“It was time to reinvent Fashions on the Field and make it relevant to the digital age. The competition is a modern take on the traditional offering and we are excited to be working with some of the biggest names in fashion and events to bring a new experience to racegoers.
“The reach of the competition will be bigger than ever before with an increased number of entrants, amplification via social media channels and finalists being able to take part in the excitement of a live parade in front of the main grandstand. Reducing the time commitment to enter will really open the fashion competition up to many more racegoers and the entries will be more creative which we can’t wait to see.
“The launch of Fashion Chute links perfectly into our recently launched digital platform, theraces.com.au, a national calendar of racing events, and lifestyle content relating to the fun, fashion and celebrity elements of race days.”
The Fashion Chute will be located on the Rose Garden. Entries will be open from 11:00am and close at 2pm on Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day.
