We share your love of racing and all things Carnival so we will truly miss the opportunity to entertain you trackside at this year’s spectacular Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. We had an unforgettable show in store for you. But the health and safety of our community is paramount, and rest assured we will be chomping at the bit to reopen the gates to all racegoers as soon as possible.

Sydney’s world-class racing must go on (even without the usual bumper crowds),  so we invite you don your finest race wear to celebrate all the Carnival action – and “get your fun back on track” – AT HOME!

This year, we know it’s going to be a very different Stakes Day, but the races will be broadcast live and free on Channel 7 so you can still get a taste of the racing we all love while maintaining physical distancing.

Don’t forget to show us how you’re celebrating Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival while self-isolating. Take a pic in your Carnival home setting and share on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter tagging @atc_races, @7horseracing and using #FunOffTrack and #StakesDay this Saturday.

With Stakes Day being Rosehill Gardens’ annual community and family raceday, here are our tips to help keep the kids entertained at home and bring a taste of the raceday atmosphere to your place.

Stakes Day Fashion

You may have chosen an outfit for Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, so don’t let it go to waste.

Whether it’s flamboyant millinery, your new racehorse socks from TAB’s Sock Stable, your finest suit or the most glam outfit, don’t be afraid to dress up and stay in for a day in front of the races.

This applies for the little ones too – pop on their best raceday outfit, be it a suit, princess dress, horse themed clothing or dress them up as a jockey!

For fashion inspiration, refer to our Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival Style Guide.

Stakes Day Food

Rosehill Gardens is famed for its award-winning catering. Be inspired by Rosehill Gardens’ Salt and Sea pop up by creating your own charcuterie board with artisan cheese and cured meats, olives, nuts and fresh fruit.

Childhood favourite party pies and sausage rolls are the perfect treat if your Stakes Day is a family affair.

Stakes Day Drinks

For sparkling, Chandon and Chandon Brut Rosé are the best in bubbles, but if you’re a beer afficianado, go for the thirst-crushing refreshment of an Iron Jack, the official beer of Rosehill Gardens and the Longines Golden Slipper Carnival.

Staying home is the perfect time to learn a new skill, so why not get out your cocktail shaker and create your very own Stakes Day cocktails. The kids can keep busy creating new mocktails from juice, soft drink and fresh fruit in the house.

Stakes Day Games and Activities

Since Stakes Day is Rosehill Gardens’ annual community and family day, get the little ones involved and keep them entertained with a game of pin the jockey on the horse. Simply print out a picture of a racehorse and each player’s favourite jockey to pin on the horse using blu-tac.

Between races, head out to the backyard for a game of horseshoes. Place a stake at one end of the backyard and try your luck hitting it from 10 metres away. If actual horseshoes are hard to come by then try human shoes (this is permitted at Stakes Day parties, not at Rosehill Gardens).

And of course, a day at the races wouldn’t be complete with a flutter. TAB have an easy to navigate app that you can download, and  if you’re a beginner or just want some handy tips, we’ve got you covered.*

*Gamble responsibly

We were going to have Hot Dub Time Machine playing live after the last race on The Championships Day 2 – Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day at Royal Randwick on 11 April, but that concert has unfortunately been cancelled.

However, you can still dance through the decades at home with Hot Dub Time Machine this Saturday night from 6.00pm AEDT!
