Five Questions With Damien Rinaldo
April 6, 2022
Damien Rinaldo is one of the top hairdressers in the country, so we sat him down to find out how that came to be and most importantly to get his best tip for making our hairstyle last the whole day when at the races!
1. What does racing season mean to you as a stylist?
People want to make an effort and look their best at the races so I love seeing fashionable people. Especially coming out of COVID, we are seeing a return to glamour!
2. What does a day in the life of damien rinaldo entail?
Hair and family, I travel a lot with my partner who also works in the industry as a leading hair stylist and educator. When I am not working I spend time at home with my family taking them to sports practice. I have recently finished building my new home in the Adelaide foot hills, so am looking forward to spending some time there.
3. How did you end up where you are in your career and what’s your favourite thing about it?

I’ve been hairdressing for 27 years, I worked hard and always took every opportunity that came my way, I even managed to travel globally with it. Winning Australian Hairdresser of the Year three times was a massive highlight of my career. I love educating new and up-and-coming talent in the industry, and making hairdressing cool again to youth coming into the trade.
4. what is your favourite autumn hairstyle for the races?
This season, I’m loving glamorous S-bend waves: My top tip is to run the Dyson Corrale straightener through the hair to create an S-bend wave section by section, smoothing the cuticle down and letting the flexing plates do their work to gather the hair into place, creating a high shine.
5. What would be your tip to long lasting hair styles for a day at the races?
Carry your Dyson Corrale straightener in your bag for cord-free styling. Preparation is key with styling products, so keep your hair healthy using Dyson tools that all have intelligent heat control to protect hair from extreme heat damage.
6. Bonus question: If you were a racehorse, what would you be called?
BORIS!
