DONNY GALLELA FASHION TIPS
The spectacular six-week Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is the perfect opportunity to glam up, feel fabulous and enjoy a day out with those closest to you.
February 2, 2022
This Autumn we are seeing on the runways and in retail that it’s all about celebrating the good times, getting out and about again and going full glamour. With rich textures, opulent fabrics, ruffles, frills, bows, gloves, ostrich feathers and embellished accessories this Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival will be unapologetically fabulous!
Autumn Trackside trends include:
- Boyfriend style blazer with pants. We are seeing a more relaxed and oversized style blazer paired with flared or wide-leg style pants.
- Tweed and rich fabrics – Get set to see tweed two-piece suits, tweed dresses or even tweed coats. Rebecca Vallance is doing some amazing tweed this season, while Chanel is famous for its tweed too.
- Ruffles, frills, bow details and voluminous sleeves continue to be popular.
- Metallic fabrics, shimmery fabrics and embellished details on clothes and shoes.
The top three trends we are seeing:
- Bucket hats
- ostrich feathers
- Embellished Millinery
Given all things the 90s are back in, the bucket hat has made a glamorous return. It was seen on the runway at Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Jacquemus. To emulate this trend, Ford Millinery has custom made a gorgeous aqua bucket hat, with a yellow netting that sweeps over the eyes to perfectly match our Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day look.
Ostrich feathers exude glamour and are making a strong comeback this season, appearing on clothes, bags, PJ’s, shoes and of course hats. At the Valentino Couture show, they featured large, oversized ostrich feather hats. These divine creations have since been worn by Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa.
Embellish Millinery is ahead of the game and have created a black felt hat with ostrich feather trims, to complement our The Star Championships Day 1 look of traditional black and white. Berets and flat caps are popular with gorgeous beading and embellishments or netting for that extra touch of glam. Felt pillbox style hats are another great option for a high-class Autumn look.
The top three trends we are seeing:
- Print suits
- Three-piece suit
- The tonal suit
Print suits featuring both bold check and pinstripes will be a popular choice, the bolder the better. When it comes to colour we are seeing some fun new tones like khaki, brown, eggplant and rust.
The single and double-breasted style suits are trending but keep an eye out for the three-piece suit for that dapper look. Of course, you don’t have to wear a suit, you can wear a double breasted blazer, with tailored pants, a shirt and tie.
A major trend on all the runways and celebrities at the moment is the tonal trend, where one colour is used to create a head-to-toe look. An example of this tonal look is the Longines Golden Slipper Day outfit with an MJ Bale khaki suit and khaki shirt paired with a tie and pocket square that features green and gold hues in them.
If you’re feeling adventurous, go bold and clash your prints, think about the shirt, tie and pocket square combination. Wear various prints, but ensure there is one common colour between them to make it work. To really stand out, think about the details – a fun pair of print socks, nice leather shoes, lapel pins, tie pins, a nice watch, sunglasses and pocket square.
