Eight of the very best three year olds in Australia clash in the Group 1 $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose this Saturday as Rosehill Gardens hosts its first day of Sydney’s spectacular $40 million Everest Carnival.
Rosehill Gardens’ signature spring Group 1 event – renowned as one of Australia’s most important stallion making races – is part of a high-quality card of Group and blacktype racing on De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose Day.
It comes ahead of another huge meeting at Rosehill Gardens during the Everest Carnival for the inaugural running of the $7.5 million Golden Eagle on Saturday 2 November.
Godolphin’s crack colt Bivouac is the $2.70 TAB favourite in the $1 million De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose in a race his trainer James Cummings has won twice previously, including once in partnership with his legendary grandfather Bart.
Hawkes Racing’s exciting colt Exceedance to be ridden by Tommy Berry is the second TAB favourite at $4.80. The two colts sit one-all in head to head clashes.
Sydney’s nine-time premiership winning trainer Chris Waller is looking to win his third De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose on his home track.
He saddles up Yes Yes Yes ($5.50 TAB) for jockey Nash Rawiller and Kubrick ($11 TAB) with James McDonald on board.
Trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott aim to win their first De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose with the unbeaten Yao Dash ($5.50 TAB) for popular jockey Adam Hyeronimus and Dawn Passage, a $31 TAB chance for jockey Tim Clark.
And the crack field includes two horses who have already tasted Group 1 success – the Richard Litt trained Castelvecchio ($11 TAB) with jockey Josh Parr and the Anthony Cummings trained and Kerrin McEvoy ridden Prince Fawaz ($26 TAB).
The Group 2 $400,000 TAB Golden Pendant sees the first Sydney start of TAB Everest runner Enticing Star for trainer Chris Waller.
A winner of eight of her ten starts, Enticing Star is a $2.80 TAB favourite, ahead of Champagne Cuddles ($4 TAB) for the in-form Bjorn Baker stable and jockey Nash Rawiller.
Mizzy ($4.80 TAB) for Anthony Cummings and jockey Tommy Berry is next in betting.
The Group 2 $200,000 Tooheys 150th Birthday Shannon Stakes has Gem Song ($2.60 TAB) favourite for trainer Kris Less and jockey Brenton Avdulla.
Top New Zealand trainer Jamie Richards who has brought a strong team to Sydney for the Everest Carnival saddles up Avantage ($5 TAB) with Kerrin McEvoy.
Two other Group races at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday also continue pathways to more feature races during the Everest Carnival.
The Group 3 $160,000 JRA Colin Stephen Quality over 2400m is headed in TAB markets by the Chris Waller stablemates Dabiyr ($2.70) and Gayatri ($5), along with the Mark Newnham trained Scarlet Dream ($5).
And the Group 3 $200,000 Antler Gloaming Stakes for the three year olds over 1800m has Just Thinkin’ an early $3.10 TAB favourite for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.
Another visiting Kiwi stable Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman have second favourite Quick Thinker ($3.90 TAB) along with Rhaegar ($18 TAB).
AN AFL live site featuring coverage of the Grand Final between the Greater Western Sydney Giants and Richmond Tigers will be on offer at Rosehill Gardens undercover adjacent to the JR Fleming Grandstand.
It will be part of the Eats At The Gardens precinct as part of a host of other food and beverage outlets in general admission and Members Reserve spaces.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing Services James Heddo said Saturday’s nine-race card was packed with quality.
“The De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose is one of the most sought after races all year and has again attracted the very best three year olds,’’ Mr Heddo said.
“Saturday is the first of two massive days at Rosehill Gardens as we head towards the inaugural $7.5 million Golden Eagle on 2 November.’’
The Rosehill Gardens track was rated a soft 5 on Thursday morning with a full video report with Shaun Patterson available below.
