NSW country trainers have embraced the Australian Turf Club’s offer to receive a $500 travel rebate by starting a horse at a Canterbury Park Friday night meeting, as well as another in the next day’s TAB Highway Handicap.
The Australian Turf Club initiative has been in place for all Canterbury Park Friday night meetings during the 2016/17 season.
There are two more night meetings at Canterbury Park this season – on 3 February and 17 February – where country trainers can take advantage of the travel rebate offer, along with a $200 food and beverage card from the ATC for the use of their owners.
“This initiative has been really well received by country trainers,” Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager of Racing James Heddo said.
“We had four trainers take advantage of the travel rebate at our last Canterbury Park night meeting on Friday 20 January 2017, and two of the trainers and their connections picked up a significant share of the prizemoney on offer with their gallopers being placed.
“Whilst bringing down horses for the Saturday TAB Highway Handicap, they were also able to find these suitable races for a stablemate at the Canterbury Park night meeting.
“With Sydney metropolitan prizemoney at record levels, there has never been a better time for country owners and trainers to head to the city and compete for a share of the spoils.”
