August 10, 2022
The Australian Turf Club joins with some of Western Sydney’s biggest community and sporting clubs at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday for the long-standing and popular ClubsNSW Western Metropolitan Raceday.
The Listed $160,000 Smithfield RSL Rosebud, a key pathway to Rosehill Gardens’ signature Spring Group 1 race the $1 million Golden Rose, is the feature event on the ten-race card.
Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Kibou looking for a third consecutive victory has opened a $2.90-$3.10 TAB favourite in the race for jockey Regan Bayliss ahead of Sebonack on his home track for Hawkes Racing and jockey Tommy Berry ($4.60 TAB).
Saturday continues a 32-year plus partnership between the Australian Turf Club and ClubNSW Western Sydney Metropolitan Region and includes a function of almost 500 guests in Rosehill Gardens’ Grand Pavilion, overlooking the racecourse and home straight.
Amongst the Clubs supporting the raceday and with races named are Smithfield RSL, Canterbury-Hurlstone Park RSL, Guildford Leagues, Campbelltown Catholic Club, Cabra Bowls, Dooleys, Bankstown Sports Club and State body ClubsNSW.
The raceday will raise funds and awareness for charity partner Little Wings, a non-profit organisation that provides free and professional safe flight and ground transport services for seriously ill children in regional and rural NSW.
ClubsNSW Western Metropolitan Region President Bill Treloar said Saturday continued a tradition with Sydney racing and the Australian Turf Club which started in 1990.
“For more than 30 years from a humble start we have grown our partnership with the Australian Turf Club and helped to raise almost $2 million for a variety of charities,’’ Mr Treloar said.
“We are thrilled to again join with Little Wings which does wonderful work for families across NSW.
“Saturday’s annual raceday allows us to thank so many of our Clubs and acknowledge the support and hard work they do all through the year for charities and causes such as the recent floods in NSW.
“We also look forward to many of our Clubs and Members enjoying the renowned and award-winning service and hospitality of the superb team at Rosehill Gardens and the Australian Turf Club.’’
One of the best early backed runners into third favourtism in the Smithfield RSL Rosebud is the John O’Shea trained Zoukerino ($8-$6 TAB) with jockey Brenton Avdulla aboard.
The past two winners of the $1 million Golden Rose – In The Congo and Ole Kirk – both ran in the Rosebud before taking out the influential Group 1 feature at Rosehill Gardens.
The Australian Turf Club is offering a Punters Pack special – with a $39 ticket ($60 value) which includes general admission entry, two Furphy beverage vouchers, a $10 food voucher and a racebook.
