TAB Epsom Day on Saturday, 1 October has received a boost with introduction of the first ATC Punters’ Club Challenge supported by TAB.

The Australian Turf Club, with the support of its industry partner TAB, are inviting groups of keen racing followers to form a punters’ club to celebrate a great day of racing as part of a bumper sporting weekend.

Hosted by Seven Network’s Ryan Phelan, participants can purchase a table in the Royal Randwick Ballroom and enjoy a first class food and beverage package while overlooking the track with unrivalled views of the racing action.

The competition offers twenty teams of eight people the chance to participate for over $16,000 in prize money, with $10,000 of that going to the winning team.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Officer, Darren Pearce, said that the competition will sort the serious racing enthusiast from the casual tipster.

“The ATC and TAB are excited to deliver this initiative on a feature day such as TAB Epsom Day. With a host of high quality racing, it will provide the perfect platform for punters to test their tipping skills”, said Mr Pearce.

“We believe a competition offering significant prizemoney and the possibility of taking home your share of the spoils will appeal to all types of punters and will be a great way to reward those that get to the track and enjoy the day.

“This initiative recognises that the group social experience of having a bet together is such an important part of the fabric of racing for both on course or off course customers.”

Guests will hear from special guest speakers throughout the day including Group 1 trainers and Sky Racing media pundits, to try and give tables a winning edge with their tips and tricks of the trade.

Key races on the track include the Group 1 $1 million TAB Epsom Handicap, running for the 151st time, as well as two supporting Group 1 races in the $750,000 McGrath Estate Agents Metropolitan Handicap and the $500,000 Flight Stakes.

The event opens at 11.30am with the formalities starting at midday. The first competition event will be Race 2, jumping at 12.55pm.
