BUDDING STARS SHOOT FOR XXXX GOLDEN ROSE AT ROSEHILL GARDENS
September 22, 2021
One of Australia’s most important races – the Group 1 $1 million XXXX Golden Rose for the three-year-olds – headlines day two of the Australian Turf Club’s world-class Everest Carnival this Saturday at Rosehill Gardens.
On a ten-race program with five Group races, the Group 1 XXXX Golden Rose has attracted the cream of Australian racing’s rising stars, including boom Godolphin colt Anamoe, a dominant $1.90 -$1.95 TAB favourite for trainer James Cummings and jockey James McDonald.
Saturday’s return to Rosehill Gardens for the XXXX Golden Rose – a race highly targeted by stables and breeders across the country – comes ahead of another signature Everest Carnival event at the racecourse, the $7.5 million XXXX Golden Eagle on 30 October.
The Group 2 $400,000 Keeneland Golden Pendant, Group 2 $200,000 Ned Whisky Shannon Stakes, Group 3 $200,000 ACY Securities Gloaming Stakes and Group 3 $160,000 Drinkwise Colin Stephen Quality add to Saturday’s strong card.
Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said the XXXX Golden Rose was a pivotal race during the early part of the Everest Carnival.
“The XXXX Golden Rose is firmly established amongst the leading races for three-year-olds in Australia, and this year’s field is again outstanding,’’ Mr Ross said.
“With so many of the country’s best colts featuring, it has become a breeding and industry-defining race with previous winners including Zoustar, Trapeze Artist and The Autumn Sun.
“The XXXX Golden Rose at Rosehill Gardens is a central part of the seven-week $50 million Everest Carnival which continues to strengthen each and every year.”
The world’s largest racing and breeding operation Godolphin (and Darley) is looking to win a fifth XXXX Golden Rose within a decade with Group 1 winner Anamoe.
Hawkes Racing – who last year trained the quinella – saddles up second favourite Remarque ($8.50-$8 TAB) with Hugh Bowman aboard and Hilal ($34 TAB) for jockey Josh Parr.
Another Group 1-winning colt Artorius for trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman is at $8.50-$9 TAB.
Amongst a stellar 13-horse field are two fillies – Jamaea for trainers Robert and Luke Price at $15 TAB (jockey Brock Ryan) and Queensland visitor Startantes ($18 TAB) for trainer Robert Heathcote and jockey Regan Bayliss.
The Group 2 $400,000 Keeneland Golden Pendant offers not only vital Blacktype but also further pathway to further Everest carnival races, including the inaugural $2 million The Invitation.
Outstanding Kiwi filly Entriviere for young gun trainer Jamie Richards and champion jockey James McDonald is a $2.40-$2.25 TAB favourite.
A winner of six of eight starts, she is being touted as not only a leading The Invitation contender but also a possible TAB Everest slot runner.
A high-class group of fillies and mares follow in TAB markets – Fituese ($6.50 trainer John Thompson and Hugh Bowman), Vangelic ($7 Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott/Tim Clark), Icebath ($8 Brad Widdup and Kerrin McEvoy) and Forbidden Love ($8.50 Richard and Michael Freedman/Nash Rawiller).
Further Group races this Saturday continue pathway races into the Everest Carnival including the Group 1 $1.5 million TAB Epsom, Group 1 $1 million Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes and Group 1 $750,000 Heineken Metropolitan.
