BIG WEEKEND OF RACING CONTNUES AT ROYAL RANDWICK

April 20, 2022

The Australian Turf Club hosts two days of racing this long weekend with a full 10-race program at Royal Randwick on Saturday followed by the traditional Anzac Day meeting on Monday on the Kensington track.

The two meetings follow another hugely successful world-class Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival over the previous six weeks at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick.

Sydney’s four-time and reigning Premiership winning James McDonald – who also finished leading rider of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival including three Group 1 victories – is set to have a number of top chances in TAB betting.

McDonald partners up with the leading trainer of the Carnival, and an 11-time Sydney Premiership winner in Chris Waller, with Zougotcha in the Schweppes Handicap on the opening race of the program on Saturday.

The race over 1100 metres will feature some emerging two-year-old talents looking to progress further into a winter program.

Australian Turf Club Executive General Manager Racing and Wagering James Ross said: “It is pleasing to see a number of future Black Type contenders step out at Royal Randwick this Saturday as we follow a very successful Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

“In addition to Saturday  at Royal Randwick we follow with some competitive fields on the Kensington track for Anzac Day, complemented by the Anzac Day Cup and the inclusion of Anzac Day activities.’’

Saturday’s first race jumps at 11.20am with the final race of the day at 4.55pm.

TAB markets can be found here and a list of the fields found here.

Racing continues on Monday at Royal Randwick on the Kensington track for the Anzac Day meeting which holds important historical significance.

All runners wearing the number one saddlecloth will carry the Anzac colours.

An Anzac Day ceremony will be held in the front mounting yard at 2.05pm to pay tribute to the courageous men, women and horses who have served Australia and New Zealand in several conflicts.

This will be followed by the singing of the Australian National Anthem performed by Nicholas Gentile.

Entry to Royal Randwick for Monday’s eight-race program is free.

Travel on the Opal network is free between April 14-25. Find out more here.
